In the past (post Brexit) there has been a need to provide a "welcome letter" for non-residents to show the border guards an invitation to stay for a holiday etc with friends or relatives who are themselves residents. I am unable to find any relaxation of this requirement. Any comments will be welcome.

At least 7 threads on this already. It is not a legal requirement to have a letter of invitation from a country which travels visa free, they are required with a visa application.

All these rules, proof of stay, income etc, are also in place for travellers to UK but nobody has yet been checked. Load of hype from papers trying to make travel to EU countries seem difficult.

Thanks for a prompt reply. Clearly my research was  not deep enough!

Not having been involved with visitors since the dreaded Brexit, and with no intention of ever entering UK again, I have little or no experience of crossing the border. It seems from what  you say that I need have no qualms regarding any visitors for short durations.

One daughter came over by herself in June from Bristol and just a backpack and not asked for anything except passport. Currently have other daughter plus hubby and one grandson who came over on Thursday from Gatwick and no-one was stopped or asked for anything. Family across the road came over last week and they say no-one on the flight from Manchester was asked for anything except passports.

I never done this & had no problems, scaremongering back in the U.K. saying they are asking for proof of return ticket & enough money to finance a holiday.

Have a read of the foreign office guidance for Spain, it specifically refers to this scenario - I think the key words are ‘may be asked to provide….’

John

Your second linkprovided to this posting has really put the doubts aflame!

Earlier some have said that nothing is required and nothing was asked for. Now, with respect, great legalese seems to come into play.. I will seek further comments from as many as may arise, since it may be that the item as written may have been swept aside as a totally unnecessary item of red tape. I have no wish to offend the man who wrote the original "advice" but you have raised doubts galore from the link you posted.

We have time to clarify. I seek more, please. before going anywhere near the local police.

To be honest with you I have no experience of having to provide this type of information nor am I an immigration expert. The first link contains information issued by the Spanish Government immigration service. If you are to follow any advice this is the one I would give credence to. The second link is that belonging to a commercial company.

The Forum members do provide some great information and advice but when it comes to matters such as immigration etc., I would recommend following that issued by official Government websites.

I believe when the Entry/Exit System (EES) or you might know it as ETIAS, comes into being next year may/will tighten entry requirements. These links will help explain the changes:
