We are coming over to our apartment in a few weeks for 2 months, I understand that Spain now require evidence that you have sufficient funds for your stay, we have more than enough in our Spanish account just wondered if anyone has been asked to show proof, we are driving down via Bilbao

Presumably this is the first time you have visited  Europe since Brexit, so I’m sure you’re looking forward  to your first visit in over 18 months.

Third country visitors are not allowed to work in the EU without a visa, therefore should have enough money to live on whilst they holiday in the EU. Travel itinerary should also supply your return date as well details of where you are staying. If it’s your own property you need to carry your deeds as proof.

The rules came in to effect  for the U.K. in January 2021, but Hugh Elliot  (Embassy) has frequently reported  that  will not be implemented.

There are numerous posts on here over the past 18 months on the subject and nobody  on here has yet been questioned, nor know of anyone who has had to produce evidence.

The question keeps cropping up every time the media have a slow news day.

I’m sure the question of accommodation will be covered once ETIAS begins.

Some of the  other changes since Brexit  are being adhered to, so you will need to ensure that you have  a valid passport, as validity rules have changed since Brexit and ensure that you have entry and exit stamps on your passport to comply with the Schengen 90/180 rule.

'Can' and 'may' are the two operative words here.

How anyone can state that "nobody has yet been questioned" is something my own clairvoyant skills do not extend to!

The contents of the following link may be useful. It is always best to be prepared and to conform with any country's entry requirements. Please remember, responses to your enquiry on this Forum are based on hear say and personal experience and not from immigration experts (to my knowledge anyway). For example, I had family members visit last month and in June and none were questioned at Alicante airport but that's not to say others weren't! Enjoy your trip back.

Thanks for your reply, this is not our first visit since Brexit but this subject has been in the news in UK a lot lately so I didn’t know if people are actually being checked
