Hi

I have just received notice that 2 direct debits will be taken from my bank account at the beginning of May.  One is for 50 euros for ITV which is absolutely and expected (annual road tax). However, I don't recognise the other one, and in particular the amount which looks like some of sort n...

...on-residents tax i.e. "RESIDU - AYUNT ORIHUELA" for 34.80 euros.  If it is non-resident tax related it seems a rather low amount.  Does anyone have any idea what it is for?

regards

This is because the water company have NOT been paying the department for refuse collection for the last 2 years ( here in ORIHUELA COSTA) . The council then took over the payment system. You should also find that your water bill SHOULD be reduced by the same amount.

SUMA is the council tax ( rates) , here in ORIHUELA COSTA this is paid in Sept/Oct.

Thanks for the replies - so it seems in my area (Lomas de Cabo Roig), they have separated this out from the water bills and are now taking it separately.  I don't have a problem with this, but it would be good to have some form of notification rather than having to do this as well as guessing what it is!

Hi everybody

Thanks for explaining why my water bill was so low this quarter, and I have an outstanding payment showing when I consult suma.es!!

I'd better pay it now!

If I hadn't checked suma.es I would never have known there was a bill to be paid!

Cheers

Steve

SUMA is the name of the company that collects municipal (town hall) taxes and not the name of a tax. Council tax is IBI (Impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles) and is collected once a year.

As said, the tax for collecting rubbish used to be incorporated in the water bills. In some places this hasn't happened for some time and is now collected as a separate tax. Some collect it once a year but others collect it twice a year and has reduced the amount of the water bill split quarterly.

The dates that SUMA collect these taxes are at this link https://www.suma.es/en/calendario-del-contribuyente

If you are in one of the council areas that collect the rubbish collection tax twice a year then it comes under other in both cases.

If you pay by direct debit then they are generally taken in the last week of those date ranges.
