Tax per month

You'll need to pay Council Tax ("IBI") and, as this will be a holiday home so you won't be resident in Spain, you'll also have to pay non-resident tax.  It's not possible to say how much these would be as they are both calculated using the value of the property, but it's likely to be hundreds, not thousands.  For example, we have a detached 3-bed, 3-bath house with private pool - our annual Council Tax is €365 and rubbish collection is €70.  We were non-resident in our first year (2016) and the non-resudent tax was €114.

When you find a property you're interested in, ask the agent for the cost of IBI - if they don't know, they can ask the vendor.

In addition to taxes don't forget the standing charges on water and electric bills.  In my case electric is approx.  27 euro, about half the invoiced use.

Hi Thinalan, I will give my costs of owning a holiday home. Bank costs, I don’t have any. I don’t have a Spanish bank account and never have. I used wise to transfer the funds to buy the property and use wise for all my direct debits so there is free banking in Spain.

Sumu(IBI) 200€ / year

House insurance 268€ / year

Non resident tax 125€ this year

Electricity 32€ / month = 384€ / year*

Water 22€ / 2 monthly = 132€ / year*

Bottled gas 300€ / year*

Total = 1409€ / year or 117€ / month*
