The report was from the SMMT, I'm sure you must know who this body is.. If the 67.1% is split between petrol, diesel and possibly hybrid it is.

Ah yes it was SMMT I was citing too. But  hybrids have petrol engines. So EVs did not outsell cars with petrol engines in December.

Thats why I said the 'if the 67.1% is split' between the 3 categories and leaving the 32.9 to be solely electric vehicles. Then yes it is totally mathematically achievable. I wasn't including hybrid in the ev category as they do have an ICE engine.

And you're not including hybrids in the ICE category even though they have an ICE. That's a bit disingenuous in my opinion particularly given the large number of mild hybrids that can only run on the ICE. This is a car manufacturer workaround. Adds cost to car but with little benefit in running costs.

...osts.

Maybe you are misinterpreting my answer. My point is I AM including hybrid in ICE. 67.1% split between ALL ICE cars. Petrol, diésel and petrol/diesel hybrid, leaving 32.9 for solely EV cars. That is the reason why it could be mathematically possible.

I see. So when you said the following "New electric cars are now outselling petrol cars" you meant EVs and hybrids are outselling petrol cars?
