I’m sure if everyone stopped smoking, drinking to excess, overdosing on drugs etc etc , there would be many spare beds available and the operating theatres wouldn’t be so busy .

Surely you realise It’s not easy to stop drinking to excess, stop smoking, or overdosing on drugs. If there were a simple vaccine which could provide that facility I know that it would be taken up by those unfortunate people you have highlighted.
It would clearly change their lives for ever. But no such thing exists, although a vaccination against covid does exist. It’s easy and simple to get vaccinated, it’s free, what else do you need. This is what else you need, a moral and realistic sense of responsibility toward yourself, your family, your community, the national health service and those with illnesses who are being sidelined due to covid, the economy and the rest of society.

If you have not had your booster vaccination to add to vacs 1 & 2 received earlier this year + nine months has elapsed since then....... you need a booster before Feb 2022 otherwise your Covid certificate won't be valid.
Anything that encourages people to get a booster asap sounds very good to me!

NHS Covid cert has an expiry date,purely,apparently ,for legal or administration reasons,3 months,you just go on the NHS site and update it for another 3 months ,I did it,took 2 minutes .
The Spanish (EU) cert for all three vaccinations ,has ,as far as I can see looking at mine,no expiry date.
For Covid Passport ( Spanish) a photocopy or download file on your phone( which is easy to find) or paper photocopy .Plus to prove ID,Passport or (Irish) Passport card .

I had an sms yesterday to confirm my booster appointment on Tuesday 4th Jan at 14.30 in Torrevieja hospital, I'm 69 years old so if they are working their way down the age groups there is a way to go.

Smoked from 14 to 23 ,40 a day,no one I knew did not smoke,new baby ,fridge required,stopped smoking immediately,never smoked since ,was in the Army and the brewing industry after and never felt need to drag the ash.
Stopping smoking is a matter of wanting to and will power, vaping is just a con ,it is smoking only worse as it has all kinds of additives to give it a variety of tastes,off subject but resent sympathy for smokers,self inflicted injury.
