Hi all, This post is to warn Brits who have homes in Cocentaina Spain, there is a gang of thieves ripping out airconditioning units, gas pipes, water pipes, pool showers and pool equipment. They are causing thousands of pounds worth of damage for a few quid in scrap. I find this despicable at a time like this, Covid19 and Brexit. Please be watchful and have your property secured to the max. We came back to so much damage to our property that it makes you wonder what those thieves actually gain from this.

What does Brexit have to do with this situation?  Your visitors probably do not even know what it means.

Why only Brits - do you have something against other english reading members not from the island?

Sorry for your situation but this is one of the pitfalls of living inland and not being there for months on end.

One suggestion would be to befriend your neighbors so you can establish a watch - you might have to learn Spanish for this though.

Hello RayBenidorm

Considering you are a "Helpful member" I found this post unhelpful & unnecessarily critical of the poster..

It will be the gypsies getting a weigh in of scrap. Many people now have a grill placed over the A/C units. They will take anything that is not locked down. Don't forget Christmas is not far off so now is the time for these thieves to strike hard.

Really concerning reading this.

I am thinking about a wifi enabled security camera system because of this, or even paying the guy next door a few quid to keep an eye open

Sorry if I cause homeowners concern, I'm really just putting it out there as its happening. I'm glad you are updating your security.

It may be that having neighbours near is protection enough.

We are in the campo we do have neighbours but they didn't seem to see anything. The thieves will need to have had a van and there would have been 2 or 3 of them to have been able to remove air-conditioning units from a good height

Sorry you didn't find this information helpful. My purpose for this information was to raise awareness and get people to watch out for their property and neighbouring ptoperties and to report anything suspicious

RayBenidorm, I did not find your comments helpful at all, if you cant say anything positive, best to keep it to yourself.

If you had been on the receiving end of the mindless thieves, you may have had a different approach to the subject. my purpose

under the heading of "Neighbourhood watch" was exactly that ...ask people to watch out for the thieves, protect their property and be watchful of their neighbours properties and report suspicious behaviours.

My house was completely emtied 2 years ago.

I can't prove anything but there was no sign of break in. The only person with a key was a local estate agent who incidentally does a lot of work with a English business man. Everyone and everything corrupt in Spain. Biggest mistake I ever made buying in Cocentaina.

No I can't say I have ever heard of him. I thought I had good neighbours. They must of mine something wasn't right but I guess they all stick together. The thing with my burglary is no way you could if got all that stuff out of the front without opening the door which had a double lock on it. Door wasn't forced in, hence somebody had a key.
