I’m thinking of Xabia or Denia areas to visit for couple of weeks with intention of maybe a small 1 bed apartment to buy in winter. I’d love some advice on the type of places both towns are. I’m a regular middle age guy, but I don’t really like the tacky resorts, preferring just a little more nicer bars restaurants, culture, etc, with tennis clubs ideally nearby. This is very new as an idea as I’m widowed, and want to look afresh in warmer weather. HELP.ADVICE PLEASE,!, richard

Both nice areas but it's down to personal choice, personally I prefer Denia. Denia has a nicer beach. They are also only 10mins apart, driving, so you can live in one and visit the other very easily

Just out of interest, what has made you pick those areas to, maybe, buy an apartment if you've no idea about those towns?

Also I would recommend renting short term maybe in each area before you buy because if you buy and only live here occasionally, if you find it's not for you then you're stuck with an apartment that you have to sell or go through the agro of renting to someone. That advise is actually for anyone looking to move to Spain, life here isn't always what it's made out to be on Tele.

Xabia, Denia, Torrevieja not to mention Benidorm, you'll find more bars, restaurants, booze hangouts etc. than you can dream of. If you drop by Benidorm don't miss out any of the "Wine Barrel" shops for real cheap booze. Good and cheap food at "Buffet Isidro" help yourself with all you can eat.

I'm aware of some tennis clubs in those areas, via a tennis coach. I'm going to look at the area first, before I remotely think about settling down there. You have to arrive at any place for the first time!
Any positive or negative opinions on both towns would help in my decision to at least be a foundation, until I arrive and absorb the areas

Im Not a big drinker, and not really a fan of the benidorm type bars at all I'm afraid.!!! I think that type of life is long behind me. Prefer more cosmopolitan, European coffee shop ,type vibe, if possible.

You could even try moraira, nice and quiet, nice beach lots of coffee tea cafes plus a good mix of expats. I has all the big supermarkets and an outside stall market on a Friday and the chippy there is brilliant

Much quicker to reach from Alicante airport and probably the kind of place you'd like is Altea.
I'm no tennis player but have noticed this place on the way up to the old town https://goo.gl/maps/ZSiwAtpMCsqZ3D8x7 .
The old town is wonderful - take a walk around with Street View from here https://goo.gl/maps/CJ1xTzgdxcQhCRkr9 .
