Has anyone else, like me had their electricity bill tripled in December ? I went to the Enercoop office in Crevi and stood in line waiting for an explanation, when I got to the door I could see there was a guy sat behind what I now know to be the paying in window and he had no customers, so I walked across to ask my question but before I asked, he asked me "pagar" ? I said no, so he pointed across to the two other windows where two young ladies were being grilled by irate customers, and I returned to my place next in line which now was out of the door and down the street. It seemed the man in front of me would not accept what he was being told by the Enercoop employee and was making gestures as if he had been handcuffed so I guessed he objected to paying his bill, Then it was my turn so I explained in my very poor Spanish that I had no bills to show her because I lived in the countryside where nothing gets delivered but could she please explain why the bank had taken three times the normal amount in December. The short answer was "it's because we have increased the prices" and she showed me a multi coloured chart which showed that if I did my daily routine between the hours of midnight and seven am. I would receive a lower bill. My normal bill is around 85 euros a month, this month was 275 euros.  Just thought I'd share in case you haven't checked.

Evidently you've missed the news that overall the wholesale electricity price has quadrupled this year with it doubling just in the past few months - and still rising!

Latest price I can find is for Dec 9th @216.74€, in Sept it was 156€. Last Dec it was 45.72€.

If you're on a flat rate tarif then your bill will go up accordingly.

Paradoxically because the government reduced the IVA to 10% many who were on variable rates have seen their bills actually go down but because the companies are losing money with that they will be compensating by stinging those they can!

If you have the opportunity to switch to a variable/off peak deal then do it.

Sanchez promised that this year nobody would be paying more than they did in 2018, ha.

No clue as to how he's going to keep that especially as it means either giving people refunds or subsidising their future bills to balance it out.

You're right Darro, I haven't been paying attention, I've seen snippets about high prices but ours hasn't been rising by more than about 10 euros but December's went up by 185 euros more than November's. It's now turning my thoughts to gas and solar but I might put it on hold for a while and see what happens, I 've put my three water heaters on time switches now and I'll make other economies to see if I can bring down the cost.

I am with Iberdrola and my December bill has been the lowest that I have ever had in all the 16 years that I have lived in Spain.

So tell me, have you just taken 10 x 3kw electric fires to the eco park and changed over to gas ?

Hi Bustid,

Previously, over the last 5 years, our dearest month is usually January, averaging around €150; comparing the last quarter´s bills this year with last year, they are broadly the same.  When Iberdrola changed their billing (and increased their prices!) earlier this year, they wrote to us to say they would continue to honour the ´Plan Noche´ for which we were still contracted, so I think that's why we've seen no difference.  However, neighbours of ours who were on the variable rate have seen their previous November monthly bills shoot up from around €100 to €300 this year.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thank you Kimmy, you now have my attention and I will make the necessary enquires as to how I can make the situation more bearable.

Yes, we’ve just been stung, just received this months bill for 209€ , same time last year was 78€.

Dishwasher and washing machine only ever used during the night on the so called cheap rate.

Within 3 hours of receiving that bill we’d changed supplier.

But the strange thing is, we’ve just had our final bill for the previous supplier. 12 days usage 25€ ???

That variable rate must be ridiculously variable.
