Morning all

We have a place in the Monte Cala apartments Cumbre del Sol which we bought in 2004. We visit twice a year and will spend more time when my husband retires.

Each visit I'm saddened by the amount of cats and kittens begging for food. This post is to ask that we are all kind to these animals. They didnt ask to be dumped there and fend for themselves. Their lives are miserable to the extreme and human kindness goes a long way. I've witnessed from my own balcony people being cruel including a dog walker who deliberately allowed his dog to attack a young cat.

Instead of telling people not to feed the cats, how about we get together with animal charities (there's one in Moraira on the Calpe road) and help with the capture neuter release? They provide everything but need help from residents as it is time consuming and they are inundated.

No-one will tell me not to feed a starving cat that has been brave enough to approach me and I will continue to do so. They are there anyway. Let's do our best to make their lives a bit less misersable.

Stop being unkind people.

Thank you. I dont want to preach but they really cannot help themselves. A little goes a long way. I would do more if I were there longer.

So good to hear. Let's hope the kind outweigh the cruel people shooing and throwing stones.

We have recently last year adopted two feral cats, sisters, from a local sanctuary; they had been found living in a field with a donkey. NO, not the donkey!!!!!!! One is now as soft as butter and wants nothing more than to be with us, the other one merely tolerates our existence as the food provider, although they both do come when I whistle. We got them to replace one of our two British domestic cats who had to be put to sleep (I said no more, but Arthur insisted!!) and the characters are noticeably different - still, to  a degree feral animals, but gradually improving.

Treatment of animals here is infinitely better than I remember from many many years ago, so we have to be grateful for small improvements - but equally, strays in UK are not necessarily that well treated and the horror stories from there of conditions found on occasion by all animal charities are horrendous.

Yes of course it's a worldwide problem sadly and  the UK has many sad and unwanted animals. The reason for my post is that I only visit our apartment twice a year and my time is so limited.  I feed the cats that approach my apartment for the time I'm there and then Im gone which is upsetting all round. We are told by the 'committee' not to feed and encourage but the cats are already there and rely on residents. The Cumbre is cut off from any industries, cafes etc so there is no food source other than kindness of residents. And of course it is a resident who would have abandoned the original stray. We need to work with the rescue centres to capture neuter and return. Just trying to get my message out .

I am about to move permanently to my apartment I have three dogs but I always take care of the kitties when I am out there. No animal deserves to be hungry x

Lucky you moving permanently! Yes we all need to pull together with these poor cats. They didnt ask to be there. Not sure when we will be back but hopefully not too long. 63 calle marillo. Jo
