I'm amazed at the direction of the debate here. I wrote to let ME know if you need a serious & stable internet connected house (I intentionally mentioned “stable”, as NONE of the providers mentioned in various forums, concerning Cumbre, are actually stable). Every forum software, as well as this one, supports private messages. That’s letting me know. :)
I’ve been testing different approaches and hardware solutions during last 6 months. Of course, the solution does NOT include simple (and slow and unstable) providers, advertising in Cumbre. Unfortunately, we don’t have fibre option, although Iberica de Redes announced already in 2019 that it will/is building the network here (they must be very stealthy, as I haven’t seen anyone laying FO cables yet :)).
In the current state (and lots of electromagnetic interference in the air around here), every house has to be approached individually, to ensure:
1) Proper & stable pipeline toward internet. Downlink as well UPLINK is very important for cloud services to work properly & be actually useful (for ex. your of-site backups, company remote infrastructure access, remote meetings with your team, or simply multiparty family calls…)
2) Quality WiFi6 and wired network coverage throughout the property, that actually utilizes the internet pipeline to its fullest (not that you go few meters from access point and the speed drops significantly) for all clients in the house (Phones, IoT, Smart TVs, Computers, Cameras…)
For the ones saying GIT can provide 50Mb/s downlink I can only say that you are either dishonest or do not have that particular service. Sure, it may go when the stars and planets align correctly, and an hour is 02:30 in the morning, for a small percentage of time, to a >50Mb/s speed, but it is almost guaranteed to drop to even <0.01 Mb/s for about 5 to 10 minutes, every hour, most probably 10 or 15 minutes after a full hour mark (so 09:15, 10:15 etc). Try to work on an internet link like that!
For the ones not understanding the requirements of even simple 4K video streaming (Amazon Prime, some sports channels, Netflix etc), if you don’t want to stare into boxes when you fast forward or resume, or waiting while streams break at the moment your sport team is going to score, you need at least 50Mb/s STABLE connection for ONE TV. If kids are in the house or you use more TVs at the same time, that requirement goes way up.
All in all – for the ones that are searching for serious internet connection, I am willing to discuss the possibilities in person, demonstrate my current solution and help designing appropriate solution for your property. For others that are happy with whatever they have, just ignore this thread.
I wish you all a nice weekend.
