We live in England and have an apartment in Cumbre del Sol. We are considering buying a second hand car and leaving it there as the car hire is expensive.
Can anyone advise what the admin process is please?

Second hand cars are much more expensive in Spain. You probably looking to spend 5-8k on 15 year old good runner. Car insurance is much cheaper then UK. When you get the car park it at the airport for 250-350 a year.

Have a look at FWR Eurocars. Frank to owner is a good guy and deals with all the paperwork and will arrange insurance if you want him to. As mentioned it’s 250€ / year to park at one of the many outside airport car parks which includes unlimited pick ups and drop off’s.

True enough, but a15 year old car in Spain probably won't have any rust or been driven on a road that had been salted in the winter. Apart from having the steering wheel on the wrong side, and headlights that will need changing, a British car isn't worth much in Spain when you decide to sell it. Good luck with your project.

I´d suggest you use a dealer close to where you live, so that you can easily take it back to sort out any problems. The dealer price normally includes a year warranty and they will do all the change of ownership paperwork for you. This is probably too far away in Villajoyosa, but we were very happy with their service when we bought from them, and it´s a typical small town dealer www.jonenseautomocion.com.
Google Maps should find you others and will usually have their own web site with current stock.
You could also look at www.flexicar.es as a guide to prices at least (much the same as Cinch in the UK).
Diesel is cheaper than petrol in Spain and higher mileage so should be lower running costs.

I agree with PedroB
I bought from FWR Eurocars near the airport, I found Frank to be friendly and trustworthy and his cars come with a warranty, he also recommended excellent annual parking.

I conducted much of the business from the uk, inspected and test drove the car on arrival, they will pick you up from the airport, signed paperwork and carried on down to La Florida with the car, they also organised the car insurance, all very straightforward.

I have had my place in Spain for 22yrs now but only bought the car in 2022, I wish I had taken the plunge much sooner, last Friday we landed in Alicante and within 30mins we were driving off the airport, completely hassle free.
A nice twist to the car insurance is that it is the car which is insured, not the individual, enabling my family to use my car when they go over.

Thank you so much. This information is really helpful. I did hire a car many years ago from Frank in Moraira. I'm thinking this might be the same guy. 👍
