We have an apartment on the Cumbre del Sol and I’m always saddened by the desperate situation of the  stray cats and kittens. I’ve contacted local charities and suggested our Resident Association liaise with the charities and I’m awaiting a reply.

We only visit twice a year and I feel useless but is there anything I can do from England? People can be cruel, even taunting the cats with their dogs, throwing stones, chasing them.

They’re hungry, thirsty and many have injuries, deformatories (particularly the eyes I’ve noticed) and some look perfectly ok.

Would appreciate any advice, comments.

We have just adopted two young feral sisters from a local shelter. They had been living in a field with a donkey - no , we dont have the donkey also!!!!

They were neutered by the shelter and we have had them vaccinated and microchipped. They have been with us for almost 3 months; one of them is becoming very affectionate and loving, her sister appears no longer to be frightened of us, but we still cannot touch her, although she comes when I call.

They have finally been let out of the house - with some trepidation!!! - a couple of weeks ago and they obviously must like living with us as they come back - albeit they are now treating our house as an hotel!!!! We hope that the sister will gradually let us touch her, as currently it is very difficult as they cannot be placed into baskets to go to the vet; I am reluctant to put No 1 sister in basket as she has only recently allowed me to touch and play with her, so am wary of destroying her trust at the moment.

And they are very grateful for food, don't overeat, and make little attempt to steal anything!!!!

Oh goodness they are so sweet!

Well done adopting from a rescue centre and if I lived on the Cumbre I would do the same but we only visit twice a year at the moment, but have been doing so since buying our apartment in 2004 so have seen the strays for many years.

Could you or do you know of anyone else who would be prepared to work alongside the cat rescue people in Moraira? They supply the cages which would need to be left overnight and the vet checks, neutering etc. I’m just not there long enough to be of any help. These poor cats and kittens are really living a miserable life, up against it all day.

The contact is [email protected] and she has a charity shop on the Moraira to Calpe road.

Would be so good if you could help and/or get the word out to help them.

I am so sorry, Jianne, but I do not live close enough to Moraira, it’s at least a half hour drive from us and I have no contacts there, and I am also sorry but would not have the time.

I have every sympathy with her, but there are also at least 3 animal shelters closer to me, also desperate for help and with limited resources and with charity shops in Jalon and Javea.

Tragic as it is, one can only do what one can do, and until the population drops, due, hopefully to the neutering programme, there will always be neglected animals. There are a whole school of them living in a basura area on one of our regular routes and dearly as one would love to help them, one can’t.

PS your cats are lovely - the one from Morocco looks a bit like a Russian Blue?

Oh totally understand.

I’m new on here and thought it was a forum for just the Cumbre del Sol.

Yes the problem is of course everywhere and with all of us chipping away it can only help.

Salty, we think, is maybe Korat.

He’s stunning. My daughter found him on the beach in Morocco at a few weeks old two years ago. He lived with her for a year there and last year they had a road trip together travelling from Morocco to Gibraltar, through Spain and then to us in north Devon.

He’s a so and so but we wouldn’t be without him.
