We were supposed to return to the U.K. from Spain, staying 2 nights in France to reach Calais. However  one 24 hour lateral flow test is required to enter France. Then another 2 - day test to enter the U.K. . However we don’t know how the tests and getting the results  work in France,...

... in addition it would mess the driving hours to get to Calais and get into the Le Shuttle on time. So we decided to cancel the latter, and go by Ferry from Santander.

Hi Maria.    can I just ask.  do you have dogs I tried to book a ferry up to the 10th from Santander to U.K. but thy had nothing!  so we headed for the Cherbourg ferry , we then had to go on the 6th from Calais through tunnel awful drive. Rules had changed too halfway up, now if not in U.K. by 4 am on the Tuesday ,ship docking at  at 6am! we then needed  a lateral flow and No one would certify for us !   So we had to dash for the tunnel so as to get in before 4am Tuesday last.  Surely,  If you have your lateral flow 24hours, that’s done and resulted in Spain ? getting into France within the 24.   Then your day 2 tests just have to be booked and paid for for your PLF forms.  We crossed the French border from Spain at San Sebastián and no one checked anything. I had my Declaration of honour hand written lol.

We are now in contact with a local pharmacy where our other property is located and they can do the test and issue a certificate

Hi Alan, can I ask where your farmacie is please. We couldn’t get one certified at all and i was in a blind panic. We went to 5 and a Lab too, a PCR was all that they offered and needed to wait for an appointment

We are in contact via face book with a pharmacy in Guemene sur Scorff where we have a house  it’s bit further west so don’t know if it’s of any use to you

i drove back to the uk via france and calais from benissa 2 weeks ago, i stopped overnight in San Sebastian and then two nights in france before catching the ferry to uk, had to get my covid test in france as it has to be no more than 48 hours before crossing and booked my day 2 test and plf before i started my journey, no one at the spain/france border to check anything. there was no requirement for a test for france when i left.

Can I just ask what date you left France. ?  Also, where in France did you get your test please ,we may need one next time amd the place we stayed one night wouldn’t give a certified LF !

I think the 24 hours in France is for transiting air passengers on stop overs between flights, nothing to do with all EU and other citizens that drive though France

Yes in Spain it’s easy. I don’t know about France. It would cause delays on our scheduled  driving  times. So we decided to take the ferry from Santander to the U.K., and not via France. I’m absolutely petrified because I find it scary being on ship for 26 hours, in a stormy weather!!! I love travelling by the Le shuttle.
