Online TIE applications

A gestor could submit the initial EX-20 application on your behalf, but would have to do that in person if they couldn't do it online.

A registered gestor will have a certificado gestoría, which enables that gestor to do online applications on behalf of anyone.

It's a common practice for unregistered 'gestors' to require their clients to get their own electronic certificate, or at least the 20 digit code for this, and hand it over to them.

Would I do that? No way, José! The gestor would then not only have access to a load of information held about you on public databases, but could also alter that data.

By all means get an electronic certificate, as I keep urging people, but do the application yourself.

Thx Jim, this is exactly what has just happened to my friends.  I queried it too, but checked with another gestor and was told the same thing.  So the bottom line is, if a gestor is asking the applicant to obtain the digital certificate, they're not a bona fide business 🤔

The problem is that anyone can call themselves a gestor, and I don't think there's actually anything wrong with that, but if they're not a member of the Colegio de Gestores Administrativos then I don't think they qualify to have a certificado gestoría.

It's a comparable situation to accountants in the UK. Anyone can call themselves an accountant, but if they're not a qualified member of the chartered institute, then they have no official standing.

Thank you so much Jim for your advice this has been very helpful to me .  I am new to this forum and have just discovered your guides as well, just brilliant.  Hopefully I will navigate myself to a better outcome.  I think a registered gestor would be my next best move as I do not think I am confident enough to do the TIE application myself unfortunately.  I will obtain a digital certificate confidentially like you say.

I've just spoken to Uma at https://www.getlegalinspain.com/ (a gestor who has received many recommendations on this forum).  She advises against giving your digital certificate to anyone.  They offer the residency service to first-time applicants at a cost of Eu 90 per person.  Her colleague, Alison, who handles this service, can be contacted on 00 34 644 492219 and [email protected].

I'm a little loathe to add this, because it is yet to be confirmed, but Uma also told me there's been a suggestion that the fiscal requirements for first-time applicants are about to be dropped from a lump-sum of Eu 9,000 per person to Eu 5,000 per person, and/or monthly income from Eu 750 per person to Eu 500 per person.  A list of the other requirements are given on their website and whilst it still reflects the current financial requirements, they expect to receive confirmation of any changes next week, so I will update the thread as soon as I know for sure.

Uma didn't say and there didn't seem much point asking her anything else until we know whether it's correct, but I will ask when I follow up next week.  Regarding post-Brexit, the figures are lump sum Eu 28,000 or monthly income of Eu 2,400 - as these apply to all Third Country nationals, I'd be surprised if they drop too, but I will also ask next week and update the thread.
