Hi aadebbah,

As an EU citizen, you can register as resident in Spain using form EX-18, which will need to be submitted to your nearest foreigners´ office at the Policía Nacional.  Here´s a link to download the form and an explanation of how to complete it:

https://www.vivreavalencia.com/how-to-complete-the-ex-18-form-to-get-a-certificado-de-registro-de-ciudadano-de-la-ue/

In addition to the form, you will have to prove the income level required by the office to which you apply.  In the Alicante province, this is a little less than €6,780 for one person and around €12,500 for a couple; property, savings and investments can also be taken into account.  You will also have to prove that you have healthcare provision, either private insurance or, if you´re a state pensioner in your country of origin, apply for the form S1 to transfer your healthcare rights from Belgium or the Netherlands to Spain.

If you speak Spanish to a reasonable level, you could do this yourself, but you could engage a Gestor to do it for you, for a fee of around €80 per person.

Kind regards,

Kim

If you get an Appointment at your local police office that deals with immigration , you will get your approval same day ( assuming your paperwork is in good order etc)  my husband went to get his with his Irish passport . Made the appt, had all  paperwork & Tasa payment done and we were in there 15 minutes before he walked out with his new card . So jealous it was easy compared to my pre brexit UK passport application taking 3 visits !

Hey, my Irish husband is starting the same process and we're also in Santa Pola and be great to get a bit of advice. Did your husband need a Padron as part of the paperwork? We are getting conflicting advice that mandatory and unnecessary. Great to hear a bit more detail about what he needed to take with him. We've had an initial discussion with a solicitor for free but says it will be €500 for them to help further. Says it will be €800 to help me (UK Passport) to get residency as the next step. Thanks.

Hi Simon 135,

Ouch!  As your husband is Irish, the process for him to gain the 'Certificado de Registro' required of EU citizens wanting to live permanently in Spain is straightforward and a gestoría can help you do this for around €80 - €100.  As his spouse, you can obtain residency as the dependant of an EU citizen.  This will be more expensive, but it shouldn´t be anything like €800.

I would recommend you obtain quotes from the following gestors:

Thanks Kim and would you know; where should my husband apply for his pardon in Santa Pola?

Hi Simon,

If you live in Santa Pola, your husband needs to apply at the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) in that town.  It's illegal to sign on to the Padrón if you're not resident, so he needs to explain that he wants the "certificado de empadronamiento" to support his residency application.

Kind regards,

Kim
