Hello all :),

how is safety in Costa Blanca? are there many home theft, or car theft and so on? All single family homes have bars on windows...

Thanks!!

There’s a  recent long thread on here about the  door window grills. Most older properties are designed  that way, so you can leave your windows and doors open for ventilation.

Makes it harder for anyone to attempt to enter your property, whilst you’re having a little siesta in the garden.

So the bars are a design factor in Mediterranean properties, not because it’s a crime area.

I can't imagine what has got you so worried about crime and theft.

Costa Blanca is about the same as any other region for crime statistics.

As mentioned, window bars were a standard design on Spanish homes which prevents opportunistic crimes when leaving windows open for ventilation.

I feel as safe here in Spain as I did in the UK.

I actually feel safer in Spain than I ever did in England.

I can go running alone as a woman through and around La Mata Natural Park and have never once felt uncomfortable,  even at dusk. Obviously I'm vigilant but was never able to feel free when running back in England.

Like every one else just make sure that if windows and doors are open that valuables aren't within reach or eyesight and lock door grills if in the garden as only takes a second for someone to nip in and out.
