I know how to pay 60 percent less income tax in Spain and so should you, if you own a uk property and it has full time tenants and you can prove it by having a rental contract and bank statements to prove that the rent is paid to you then any bills for repairs to your home, any insurances ie house insurance and if you pay the tenants council tax etc can be deducted from your nett income, check it  out also  replacement boiler gas saftey checks, yearly electrical  safety checks,I saved by simply using a computer and asked the question 60 % tax reduction for uk homeowners resident in spain, good luck.

Hi apache999,

Anyone using a professional tax advisor should already be achieving these savings, although I´d be far less confident for those who use gestors to do their Spanish tax returns.

It´s quite an eye-opener comparing the allowances in each tax regime.  When I completed this year´s self assessment in the UK, I couldn´t claim for a new front door, as HMRC deem that as "improvements" rather than "repairs", so I was surprised to hear from Abaco, our tax advisors in Spain, that it is acceptable to claim for this under Agencia Tributaria rules.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim,

If your old front door was replaced due to being damaged, you may be able to make a claim to your insurance company if you have landlord/landlady/person protection.

If the damage occurred as part of an "Insured Event" which is the terminology used by insurance industry, you may be successful.

An Insured Event is something that is covered by your plan.

Hope this helps in some small way.

Regards,

Donald

Thanks Donald, but the door wasn't damaged, I just wanted a smart, new one 😄

I knew it wouldn't be allowable on my UK self-assessment tax return, but was surprised to hear that it was allowable on my Spanish tax return.

Kind regards,

Kim
