Hi, my name is Warwick and I completed the purchase of a flat in Denia last December and immediately started getting electric ( Iberdola) and water (Aqalia) bills each month although I have only spent approx 10 weeks there since December . Can anyone explain how the system works and will I eventually get reimbursed for the what I have been charged for and not used .Any help would be much appreciated, Warwick

Utility bills include a monthly connection fee even if your meter doesn't show any consumption. Water bills may also include waste water treatment. Hard to say without having a look at the bill.

You will always pay around 20e per month for electricity when the property is empty. Maybe more if your on a high tariff.

Water around 25e per mth

These costs relate to standing charges

Turning electricity completely off will show a red light on your meter, an invitation for crooks for a "visit".

Hi

Reading all these responses I feel we are perhaps paying too much?   Our electricity is about 130 a quarter and water is on average 65 a quarter.  In addition we are connected to gas which is around 60 a quarter.  We are only in Spain every 2 or 3 months for around 5 days although sometimes we have family with us.  We do not have a pool and our community charge is around 260 and suma 198 a year.

Does this sound about right?

Thank you

Hi Warwick,

Did you check the dates on your first bills as you may have paid a portion of the previous owners bill.

Your debits may have been set up by your solicitor if you gave POA authorisation. In our case we paid for previous owners utilities and suma then had to claim back from our solicitor who had held €4000 from the vendor for any debt responsibility.

Stupid system but worth checking.

Regards

Stevie.
