The following is the latest  on the Brits in Spain Facebook page.   It was issued on the 16th January 2023.

Driving Licence Negotiations*We wanted to let you know what has happened on the driving licence negotiations since the ambassador’s video before Christmas. Work continued over the holidays and we are pleased to tell you that the legal checks have now been completed on both sides and the final processes required for an international treaty are now underway. The Agreement will go forward to the Consejo de Ministros for approval – these meetings take place each week and, while we have no control over the scheduling, we hope it will be tabled very soon. There will then be a formal exchange of notes and the Agreement will apply once it is published in the BOE (state bulletin). We will keep you informed as things progress. Ahead of that, we recommend you get your psicotécnico test in place, as you will need a certificate showing you have passed the test in order to exchange your licence. Certificates are valid for three months and if you fail it you can retake as many times as you need. If you haven’t done it before, the psicotécnico is a short test to check your eyesight and reactions. You may also have a brief interview with a doctor. These are the official locations listed by the DGT

Go to your nearest psicotécnico office (there is one in most towns and some have English speaking personnel).   In the past I have used the ones in Almoradi, Catral and Callosa de Segura and each have their own cost.   Last November I went to renew my Driving Licence in Callosa and the new one arrived in the post last week.

The following was posted on the N332 Facebook page yesterday.

Driving Licence NegotiationsAs soon as the agreement is published in the Spanish official bulletin we will post it. The last update given by the British Ambassador Mr. Hugh Elliott is the following;"We know you are anxious for news about when the driving licence agreement will go before the Consejo de Ministros (Council of Ministers). We continue to press the Spanish Government for a precise date and, while they have not confirmed one yet, they have assured us that it will be very soon. We recognise this is frustrating but, as a Spanish Government process, it is not in our hands. Thank you for your patience."Also keep an eye on the Brits in Spain Facebook page as they also put up such information.

Check the spainsh site for BOE publishing, there is a delay to the UK licence exchange Agreement!  The Spanish have requested certain "Technical Words" and phrases to be reworded?  Also they require the complete set of Notes from the discussions from the past year to be added as addendum to the contract.  These notes will obviously have to be reviewed and commented on.  These are the reasons it has not been presented for signature.  I pray for all those waiting to exchange it is resolved soon (Don't hold your breath!) It is disgraceful behaviour of the UK government to not finalise this issue.  I went through the driving test process and passed the practical on second attempt!! I have seven international driving licences!! yet Spain failed me for doing absolutely nothing wrong, even my instructor said it was a miscarriage of justice.  Only been driving for 47 years accident free. So a novice in the eyes of Spain.

Because Boris Johnson rushed through brexit and told everyone deals were done!!, he was praised or getting "IT Done"  in fact there is so many outstanding issues, trade deals gone sour border controls, immigration control, northern Ireland, trade labour agreements, driving licences, etc etc, the only thing he agreed was to pay billions for 10 years in a divorce settlement.  It is the general public and countries that used to be uk allies that are suffering from a deal gone bad.  Take a look at the spanish in the uk, no licence exchange needed or test. The british government had 5 years to sort it all out, they did nothing and hid the true facts from the british people.  Didn't help with the british government opposition being led by a communist and zealot with a fruit cake brother.  Do you want me to continue?  Could write pages on the subject?  Just look at the rate if inflation and numbers of european workers umemployed now due to british arrogance and ignorance.  There is good and bad in everything, but brexit was going to happen, but got lost in translation as the british people did not vote for this, it was to stop the unprecedented immigration that was a problem and now is even worse. We cannot afford to support our nurses, emergency services, police etc who are expected to live below the poverty line whilst illegal immigrants live a reasonable life with money in their pockets at the expense of the british tax payer and contributors.  Comes to something when ukrainians are given preferential mortgages and fast track visas when ordinary british home owners are losing their homes everyday. Blah blah blah

Vulnerable women and children are avoiding being bombed, kidnapped or worse by being separated from their men who are protecting the west from invasion.
