I would recommend you get legal help with your application. They deal with this all the time and take much of the uncertainty out of the process.

Having said that I have been thwarted at the last hurdle. All necessary conditions have been met, all papers notorised and rubber stamped by the  foreign office but I've been turned down by the health insurers....

...

I am fit and healthy and can only assume they rejected my cover on age grounds......they didn't give a reason for the rejection.

I'm 81 but only just sold my 650 twin motorcycle and have a large scooter in Thailand. Totally gutted by this outcome as I've sold my house and contents to realise this dream.

The irony is, that once in Dénia I qualify for free health care in Spain after completing an S1 form and submitting it to the NHS in England........there is still a reciprocal agreement in place on health provision post Brexit.

I hope you have better luck than I did. Wishing you all the best in pursuit of your dream.

Tony

Silly question but have you not looked around at different insurers, you’re already in for quite a few quid.To get our insurance to a sensible level price we have to pay a fee of €20 to see the doctor and €100 for any operation.I thought it was only Brits that were covered by the Withdrawal Agreement that benefitted from the reciprocal health agreement.

I am a Brit. The legal team tried many insurers after my first rejectio....none could give the cover required.

Disappointing for you,I’m sorry I can’t think of a solution.

It is stressful.  The insurers don't like providing civer for over 65's brits, one reason is we cancel the policy and apply for S1 cover.  Our friends perservered and found a company that allowed quarterly payments, most medical ailments excluded, and ni claim coyld be made for first six montgs and right to cancel clause included.  They paid first quarter and was issyed with necessary certificate showing one year.  Got visa, moved to spain, paid second quarter, then cancelled policy.  Got temporary SIP card at medical centre, and applied for S1.

VERY disappointed to hear this and hoping we are not rejected.  The movers are taking our belongings out of the house as I write this and we've sold the home.  Thank goodness we have a caravan here state side - looks like it might be our home for awhile if rejected.  I'm 58 but husband is 72.....I'll keep watching this forum.  And saying a few prayers (and I'm not religious!)

Hi, Sorry but unable to advise you as I'm still in the UK awaiting my interview with the Spanish Consulate in Manchester (hopefully within the next 3 weeks). During this interview I'll be granted the non-lucrative visa and will then move out to Denia and like you begin the process of gaining the ...

...Spanish driving licence. I'd just add that the process of obtaining this visa has cost a total of £4300 including lawyers' in fees both in Barcelelona/UK plus the mandatory health insurance. Again, apologies for being unable to give the information you require.

There is no rush to get your Spanish Driving Licence.  You can drive in Spain on your UK Licence for 6 months from date of Residency issued.  The UK government is still in dialogue with Spain to allow Brits to Exchange their Licences without the need for a Spanish Driving test.   The Decision has been deferred for the unpteenth time to 30th April 2022, this date will be moved again, you are allowed to drive on your UK licence to this agreement date if your 6 months has passed.

Than you for your imput. The matter has become rather academic as after spending three months and a deal of money in legal fees I have failed to get the necessary health insurance to gain the non-lucrative visa. In every other respect documentation has been notorised, passed on to the foreign office for authentication before electronic copies were submitted to lawyers in Barcelona.

I'm in great health despite being 81 and would not impact the Spanish state adversely as once in Denia I would apply for the reciprocal health care using the form S1. Added to this I would be bringing well over half a million pounds into the country not to mention my ongoing pensions.

Needless to say I am gutted by this decision
