Hi all,

I've shared the "Future Learn" site with the forum before - it's an incredible resource of free courses, developed and presented by universities and learning institutions from all over the world.  I've taken many courses around a special interest of mine, forensic science, but there's a whole range of courses you can do, even learn Spanish.  Today, this new course about Covid-19 caught my eye, here's an outline of what's covered:

"Coronavirus is a global emergency and it’s important to stay up-to-date with the facts.

⁣"That's why we've partnered with global health experts at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team to offer a new course on COVID-19.⁣

"Given the importance of this topic and the need to reach and share vital information with as many people as possible, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and FutureLearn have decided to open the COVID-19 course so that everyone has free and ongoing access to its content.

"You’ll receive a free digital certificate upon successful completion and be able to work through the course at a pace that suits you.

"Please share this learning opportunity with your friends and colleagues and help us to spread facts, not fear.

"You can also learn more about the effects of COVID-19 on:

The FutureLearn team"

and here's a link to the enrolment page:

The course starts on Monday, 23 March, lasts 3 weeks and needs only 4 hours of study per week, which you choose to fit in around your other commitments, when convenient for you.   I've enrolled, hope to see some of you there!

Kind regards,

Kim

This sounds a very productive way of using the time.  All we have been doing is learning a new song each day so we can go to the end of our garden each night at 8 pm and serenade the neighbours (only social contact) , whilst they are accommodating I am sure they would all be happier if we stayed in and studied.( we do sing badly)

This sounds a better option

Best wishes

VivienneAnn, No keep it up!. I can´t sing either, My neighbour is (obviously) learning the drums! His drum kit performance is improving night by night to the accompaniment  of the church bells. I´ll stick to "clapping" or may be a pot & pan.

The only song I can sing right through very badly, is "Love on the Rocks" (not suitable methinks)

Too much information is as harmful as to little information, what is called for in this crisis is common sense good hygiene and abide by the rules of the W.H.O. if self-isolation is required Do It.

And hopefully we will all come out the other side of this with a lesson learned Rules Do Matter......

Hi des486,

I agree, I think the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team will know a lot more about hygiene than the average citizen.  I also agree that we should be following the rules of the World Health Organisation - it's these very scientists and others around the globe who inform those rules.  Worryingly for the UK, BoJo and his crew chose to ignore W.H.O. advice, until scientists at Imperial College London proved BoJo's approach to be flawed.

Personally, I believe accurate information is empowering and would much rather rely on the collective knowledge of scientists than Fakebook.  I haven't been out of the house for 10 days and prefer to spend my time learning about this continuously evolving pandemic, rather than worrying about it in ignorance.  I also respect that others may feel differently.

Kind regards,

Kim
