If, like me, you've been confused by conflicting reports about when non-residents can travel to Spain, this update from a report by "The Local" is useful background:

"June 4th update

"It’s worth noting that as things stand there is no official state bulletin (BOE) confirming the Prime Minister’s June 7th entry date, whereas the extension of the ban on non-EU travellers until June 30th 2021 is published on the websites of the Health Ministry and several Spanish embassies abroad.

"This document titled “Mobility Restrictions And Travel To Spain (Until June 30th, 2021)” states “only Spanish citizens, foreign citizens with valid residence in Spain and citizens of European Union countries can enter the Spanish territory” from outside the EU and they will still have to provide a negative Covid test to enter Spain. Being fully vaccinated does not exempt them from having to get a test either.

"However, on Thursday June 3rd, El País ran an article in which it reported that the June 7th entry date for vaccinated travellers from around the world will be included in a separate BOE state bulletin which, according to government sources, will in theory be published on Saturday June 5th, just 48 hours before it comes into effect.

"Among the conditions that will reportedly be included are that vaccinated travellers will only be able enter Spain 14 days after receiving their final vaccine dose and that further clarification on which vaccines Spanish authorities will accept for entry will be added.

"Spain is also due to launch its ‘Covid passport’ in June to work in tandem with the EU’s Green Digital Certificate, but it remains unclear if either of these will be made available for travel to Spain from outside the bloc from June 7th, June 30th or another date."

So, hopefully, a further update will be issued today.  If it is, I'll update this post.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kimmy,

Thanks for that, it's starting to get confusing now with different governments saying different dates and traffic light systems etc 🤷‍♂️

Hi Kim

Having read this I am even more confused than ever. I thought Uk residents had been able to visit Spain since 24th May without any tests required.

Steve

Hello

Exactly Steve, someone asked me yesterday (locally, not on the forum) when  their family of 4 could come from UK & what was required.  I said I honestly don't know-  yet,  I would hate things to go wrong on my advice,  it's too much money to waste until things are more certain.

Thanks Kimmy , I'll await your further update post .

Cheers

Hi Kim,

like another poster your message confused me until I realised that you were most likely talking about the third countries not already allowed entry into Spain as of 24th May (unless I've missed an announcement somewhere?).

Hi Pauline,

I only looked deeper into it because I couldn't understand why Sanchez made an announcement about Spain opening up to non-EU travellers on 7th June, when it seemed at odds with the extension of the ban until 30th June. I was actually surprised to read that his announcement wasn't backed up by a government BOE.  Seems BoJo's not the only leader who causes confusion! 😄

Hopefully, El Pais is correct and an official update will be published before the 7th.  I'm out later for the rest of the day, so if anyone sees it before me, please feel free to update this thread 👍

Kind regards,

Kim

Aitch,

Hi Aitch,

Yes, the UK, along with a limited number of other non-EU countries, were allowed access from 24th May.  The 7th June date refers to other non-EU countries and, personally, the most alarming part for me of Sanchez's announcement was that those travellers wouldn't need a negative Covid-19 test to enter Spain.  Given that only 50+ (and essential workers) have been vaccinated so far in Spain, I hope the ban is upheld until the end of the month 🤞

Kind regards,

Kim

Coincidentally, this had just popped into my newsfeed:

"EU reminds Spain of the PCR test requirements for tourists - including the British. Sur in English"

Well I guess that's Spain told off being told to conform to EU requirements. Bit late after the influx of the past 2 weeks. Watch this space, it changes daily. Have to admit I feel sorry for the visitors to Portugal now needing to quarantine when they didn't think they needed too. We are still a long way off the new normal, maybe years?

Hi Kim, to be honest it makes more sense to ask people to confirm their covid status before they travel.

Aitch.
