Trust me, this forum is a much better place than it was 6 months ago, thanks to Alex being brave enough to ban certain people !

Couldn't agree more. Apart from a couple of informative posters, the argumentative dross has been rid. The forum is now fresher and friendlier.Onward & Upward.

Hi Martyn,

Well that certainly made me laugh! 🤣🤣🤣

How things have changed - I remember when trolls were just ugly little dolls with mad hair and bulging eyes 🤭

Thank you!

Kim

I always thought they were cute

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I like all you say but why no politics, no religion? Yes definitely no confrontation! If we base everything on respect for our fellow man and his perhaps differing opinion we can't go far wrong. Many terrible things happen because of religion and politics but if we are not sensitive to what is fundamentally right or wrong we are in danger of descending to the level of politicians like Hitler and the religious beliefs of extreme terrorists. If we perceive a political move as wrong why not say it - but always in respectful terms?.

Personally, I have strong spiritual views and firmly believe that these play a major part in my life especially now as I fight cancer. Why should we only believe in the things we see with our eyes or hear with our ears?  Why not make space for the mysterious things that come to us by intuition? Have you ever had a feeling that something was about to happen or been guided away from some action that has saved you a lot of trouble? The silent voice of spirit can be more help than you know! A.P.

I have quoted this before.

It´s worth another glance before we enter 2021:

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

I was under the impression that this forum was basically in 2 parts information, ie someone asks a question and hopefully receives replies to that question  and secondly debate ,the person feels so strongly about something they make a statement and wish to hear others opinions on subject up for debate ,peoples lives have been turned upside down this year and people like myself feel strongly on decisions being made by governments ,as we are no longer allowed to meet up in hospitality and discuss points of view with friends ,we decide to post on forums ,I'm talking from UK ,I cannot see how a person who wishes to post on this forum should be dissuaded from doing so by someone elses point of view ,I only joined earlier this year but have not found any posts I have read  to have been offensive,I may have disagreed with the posters view point but offensive  no ,good riddance to 2020 and  hopefully a much better 2021

Hello

Both of these subjects ( politics & religion) are so contentious & not things I would want to get involved  in on here.

Of course I have views & opinions but I'm not knowledgable enough to want to debate politics & religion is a more personal  subject for  me , so if disagreement ensued - and it would,  I would rather opt out of the discussion.

Cheers

My reply to this was that we must always respect the opinions and feelings of others - that way there will be no problem. Thus I respect your point - involvement is not an obligation. A.P.

I read many posts on the forum ,many I have no opinion on ,many I do not have knowledge to help the poster ,but in no way do I feel intimidated by any posting ,I'm not prevented to read any posting ,and not obliged to reply or have an opinion on any posting

Hi john,

I have found this forum helpful in the past when asking for information.

Ie. Where can I buy logs for my fire etc.

Trouble starts of course when people start posting anti uk statements, Boris bashing and pro European waffle.

Surely this forum should go back to people asking for and receiving help, we all know it’s a big move buying in spain, and peoples experience and knowledge is invaluable and in some ways calming to those thinking of or currently doing just that.

Everyone has a different experience because they use a different estate agent, a different lawyer ,are buying in a different region etc.

Usually common sense goes out the window at this point and then suddenly it’s a debate on the immaculate conception and was god a Tory or a labour man/woman.

Brexit gets a mention and then all the established expats jump in with their pro EU opinions, followed by an expert spell checker and so on.

35 posts later and the original thread is gone.

Interestingly the same people are now acting whiter than white and advising how to deal with trolls....

My father told me: "Regarding religion  or politics, it's similar to a field or meadow, with only two gates. Be prepared to enter & leave by your own "gate", but one may ( just may...) learn something whilst in it.  (Sorry, but written in the sun😎.) V
