I’ve done it a few times, don’t worry it’s a doodle of a drive. Far easier and less traffic than in the UK, a breeze compared to the M6 or M25. It’s around 8 hours, nearly all motorway and with very little other cars except around the Madrid orbital motorway, same set up as M25 around London or M42 around Brum, and about as busy. However, you’re only on it for less than an hour. Try to time that bit for outside of rush hours.
The last time we did it we stopped overnight just south of Madrid, but usually go straight through with a few comfort breaks. However, I have usually shared the driving.
The tolls are minimal, as previously stated, no more than 20 euros.

That's good to know. We arrive early in Bilao around 8 on a Sunday morning so we've lots of time. I might persuade him to go right through with lots of mini breaks.

3yrs ago 8am into Bilbao; to Rojales via Madrid route about 9hrs ish with stops as we had our dog, tolls no more than 20/25€ (can’t remember exactly)
