The first thing I’d advise you to do is to work out the cost of bringing your furniture over. My next suggestion is to think twice. The houses in Spain are a lot smaller and the type of furniture needs to suit the shape of the rooms. Most houses/apartments have built in wardrobes. You can now buy king size beds in Spain which was almost impossible 20 years ago when we first bought. Most properties come furnished which gives you time to look around for exactly what you’d like.

Friends moved to Spain 3/4 years ago and they found a man with a van who came over to NI ( at their cost) and together they packed mirrors, paintings, Laura Ashley type occasional furniture and a bed, he drove his old Volvo estate which he also packed to the gills. In truth, although their painting are beautiful they don’t really suit their Spanish home as too formal. Nowadays, you can buy lots of big colourful pictures from the Chinese’s shops and mirrors too.

Think hard before you annoy yourselves unless your furniture is all modern and new. It doesn’t take much to furnish a sitting room in most houses in Spain. Very little.  Curtains, white voile made to measure at your local market. if you want to bring duvets, why not buy online and have them posted along with pillows.

Years ago, I brought all my sheets, pillowcases, bits and pieces packed into my husbands big golf carry case. Amazing what you can get in there!

I hope this helps.
