Hello all,

I have succeeded in getting my NIE number and now just have to make an appointment at my local Policia to have my prints taken and get a card.

I have been online trying to get an appointment since December 22 but just keep getting the message "appointments will be added soon."

Does anyone know what's going on? Is this normal?

Thankyou

Hello

This  is a bit confusing...Are you talking about NIE or TIE?  NIE is normally just issued on paper & doesn't come with a card & I haven't known anyone get a TIE number  in advance of collecting your card with number printed on it.

If either of these procedures has changed recently then I am unaware . Just clarify which  you are applying for.

Cheers

Sorry I did reply talking about the appointments but then wondered how you can get a TIE with just an NIE.

If you are a UK citizen (or other non EU citizen), do you have the correct visa for applying for residency? If so, then you will just have to keep trying as appointments do appear from time to time. There are quite a few companies who do this for you and I think they snap up the appointments as soon as they become available. Maybe you could try one of those companies to set it up for you but don't use a solicitor as they can be very expensive. You should pay no more than about 30 euro as you still have to go to Alicante for the appointment for fingerprints and for collecting the TIE.

If not UK but a EU (including Irish) citizen then you don't need a TIE. Simply need to go on the register of foreign EU citizens residing in Spain.

Thank you for the reply. It's definitely a NIE. I received my NIE number in a letter from Madrid in December. The letter goes onto to tell me to make an appointment with the local Police to get my card and to have fingerprinting done.

The "Card" will be the TIE residency card. You don't get a NIE card.

The easiest way to do this is to employ a local Gestor who will make the appointment for you and advise you of all the paperwork which you will need to provide. They frequently have access to bookings in blocks unavailable to the general public. As said in an earlier post, it shouldn’t be more than 30 Eu or so and is well worth it.

If you have applied for a NIE number is it with a view to obtaining residency.  If so, can you advise what nationality (passport) you are and we can advise further.

The NIE  number is  the nearest equivalent to a National Insurance number and is required for large purchases in Spain or to open a bank account. You are not issued with a NIE card, just the paper with your number on it. You certainly don’t need to provide fingerprints for just a NIE.

Hi Andy,

Looking at your previous posts, you appear to be a UK citizen, so did you come to Spain with a visa issued by a Spanish Consulate in the UK - either London, Manchester or Edinburgh?  If so, are you sure the letter confirming your NIE number told you to make an appointment with the "local" Police?  TIEs are usually issued by the Policia Nacional at their offices which deal with foreigners (extranjeros).

Kind regards,

Kim

Thankyou everyone gor your replies. I think I have now understood my confusion.

I am married to a Spanish national and I will be getting a pink TIE card (apparently) sometimes referred to as pink NIE.

Mystery solved.

Still endlessly trying yo get an appointment with Gandia Police though.

Thankyou everybody who responded.
