Hi, All, have now registered our S1s. The info that came with them advised getting private health insurance top ups....... Has anyone using the Spanish system got any advice/recommendations on top ups, and with which insurance companies? We are currently with ASSSA but have not exactly had a great service from them so would be quite happy to move. Thanks in advance

"Them"=the S1s.

Private top ups for healthcare as the Spanish system doesn't cover everything, apparently.

Ambulances??? Dentists??? Waiting lists???

Who are S1's? Don't know many, if any, countries with comprhensive dental cover. Ambulances when needed here are. What do they say it doesn't cover? Strange!

Cheers, J

Information or advice which may accompany an S1 will be generic and not necessarily aimed at Spain or any country in particular.

Re ambulances: it's true that their is a 2 tier public/private system here so you need to ensure that you are only attended by a public one (either by calling 112 or 061) in which case there will be no cost to you and therefore no need for any insurance.

Re dental care: There is no provision for dental care in the state system so yes, private insurance might prove useful.

Re waiting lists: if that's something which concerns you then you can indeed take out annual private insurance or pay per treatment.

Neither of the above really fit the definition of 'top up' though which is why I queried your use of the term.

Hi Darro, Thanks for the explanation, I couldn't understand why it was something recommended for Spain.

If it covers a lot of countries I can definitely see why it would be useful, or indeed vital.

Cheers, J
