Having looked at the Moraira area as a possible area to relocate to, I have begun looking at the Gandia area. I wonder if anyone living in the surrounding areas can give me any information. I am specifically interested in La Drova, Ador/Palma de Gandia and villalonga. Is there plenty going on in the villages? Bars and restaurants? Are the people welcoming? Any advice gratefully received.

Hi Tina, we are moving to Ador before the summer.

Will let you know how we settle in and hopefully answer some of your queries!

I can say that leading up to the house purchase, we visited a few times and done a lot of research into the area. Nearly all was positive, but of course can only go by other opinions and information.

Looking forward to much to moving over and settling into the community - Paul & Bev x

Hi Tina,

We have a holiday home in Villalonga. It’s a small working village. It has plenty of local bars and restaurants. Casa Babel is the hotel which is where we stayed prior to buying to get a feel for the place.

The people are friendly and it has everything you need for day to day living.

It has easy access to the beach at Gandia and several other towns.

Gandia beech is our favourite although there are masses of other beaches.

Have fun looking around

Hi Tina

Have you decided and settled yet?

Suggestion from myself would be just short of Gandia, in Xeraco or Xeresa. Depends on your budget, and if you have transport, or happy to rely on local bus. Xeraco is a nice welcoming village, population around 6, 000. Plenty supermarkets, cafe/bars, pharmacy, doctors, school, vets, music hall, etc. Close to the beach, on the train line to Valencia. Gandia is only 8 minutes by car or train.

Good luck.

Hi Tina

I know it’s now 4 years since you posted about moving, did you eventually find a town that you liked and if so I’m hope you are happy there.

I’m now wanting to know almost exactly the same as you.

I’ve heard that Villalonga, Ador and Palma de Gandia hardly get any sun in winter because of the mountains, so it’s been suggested to look at Xativa s as I want to be able to get to Valencia in no longer than an hour and the train goes from there  as well as Gandía. I’m just worried it’s too hot in Xativa.

I prefer trees and mountains to the sea but don’t want to be remote as we are retired. We moved to the UK from hot humid sub tropical South Africa, hubby loves it, I don’t, but neither of  us like the UK weather, even though I only left for SA in my mid twenties.

Just asking for advice about good areas to look with winter sun.
