Hi, We are a 70++ age couple who have been living in France with full residency for 19 years so visas are not the issue but we are wanting to relocate to Gandia for a more vibrant retirement.

We have been researching for some time now and would like really honest advice and views on living full time in Gandia and although research is fine, there is nothing like local knowledge.

We are looking to buy an apartment, something small but we need to know which areas are the best and which are the worst,  as at this time in life we cannot afford to make a mistake

What is the health service like, important as we get older and we know Spanish bureaucracy cannot be any worse than the French!!

Please, some advice would be so very helpful at this time

Regards to you all

Ann & Les Ford

Hi Ann and Les,

I'm afraid I can't help you with the prospects of living in Gandia, but I just wanted to clarify what you mean by the comment that you "have been living in France with full residency for 19 years so visas are not the issue"?  Having permanent residency rights protected by the Withdrawal Agreement in one EU country does not give you the right to move to another EU country without applying for a residency visa.  I may have misunderstood your comment, but thought I should clarify that for you.

Kind regards,

Kim

According to previous posts one of them has dual UK and EU passports.

Sorry to burst your bubble Tentgirl but you're in for a rude awakening if you believe French bureaucracy to be worse than Spanish!

Fully agreeing with Kimmy11 I may add that you will have to proove suffficient income and pay for a Spanish health insurance whch is not cheap according to your age.In any case you will need to check with your nearest Spanish consulate for all relevant issues. Many happy returns.

Depends what your budget is, and what you want. When you say living in Gandia, do you mean Gandia beach, or Gandia town?

Hi, Just to update you.  As EU/EEA and Switzerland citizens we  pack our bags and move to Spain without obtaining a Spanish visa. Yes, we need to first obtain a temporary NIE card from the Spanish consulate which will enable us to buy a property an also change our NIE card for a permanent one. I have had long conversations with the Spanish consulate in Paris and done lots of research over the past two years so this is possible.

We buy private top up health insurance in France so that is no different and we know that we have to prove income. Please let me clarify, I just wanted to know good or bad areas for buying an apartment and the quality of health treatment.  Thanks.

Have you experienced it in France, if so what? Buying property. setting up business etc? .  My husband was a French registered Artisan and we have worked and lived in the social/tax system for 19 years.  Have you?

Ann

I live in Gandia. It depends what you mean by "good and bad", and it is also difficult to recommend somewhere without having an idea of what your budget is. And whether you want the town, the outskirts or the beach......

Hi, at last someone who has a 'positive' question not just doom and gloom

We are looking for a small apartment in Gandia town, just a one bed that we can lock up and leave when we travel over Sapin heance asmallish budget. We don't want pool, golf complex, or any of those type of facilities.

As I have explained before in various posts .......  As EU/EEA and Switzerland citizens we  pack our bags and move to Spain without obtaining a Spanish visa.
