We want to exchange our temporary TIE card for a permanent 10 year card as we have resided in Spain for 6 years. We are having difficulty obtaining an appointment at the Police station ( been trying for several months) can anyone give us any help or suggestions please...thank you.

As it's pretty much a repeat of the initial TIE procedure unfortunately you'll be in the same boat as scores/hundreds/thousands even, of others attempting to get Appointments. Going via a solicitor may hasten things but at a cost.

Theoretically there is no imperitive to renew a temporary TIE as after 5 years you automatically acquire permanent resident so even if expired the temporary TIE remains proof of that.

Keep trying. Informacion.es newspaper ran an article that there was a gang of crooks who hacked into the system and took the appointments which they sold to companies. The companies (or solicitors) would pass the charge of this free appointment on to the applicant. They arrested a gang of 7 in Alicante who were doing this and saying foreigners were finding it impossible to get appointments for NIE, TIE, SIP and other procedures.

Now they've caught them it should improve.

Here's the article

I trust the people and firms who have been buying appointments will be hauled up too.

It's stretching credibility to think they wouldn't have known what was going on and as it must be a matter of record who actually used any given slot it should be quite straightforward to trace back from there.

Better hope a well known outfit in Quesada are not be amongst them!

I would use a "gestoria" rather than a lawyer, they do this sort of work all the time.

Cheers, J
