Tonight in Gran Alacant I was sitting outside having a quiet drink with my husband when a group of ex pats turned up and asked if I minded moving inside so that they could have our seats so they could sit with their friends!! How rude! ! Why do some people think they have the right to do that just because they live here? I own a holiday home here and pay the same prices as them but now as a result  I will no longer sit outside that restaurant/pub.  Can people be nicer to each other so that we can all enjoy holidays in Spain and not give English people such a bad reputation?

I fully agree. There are many ignorant people who only think of themselves and it's very often the British 🙄 I hope you didn't give up your seats.

It probably wasn't the bar owners fault though. Don't let it spoil your holiday by not going back there.

There's no way I would have moved, you had every right to the seats you had.

BTW if you are talking about rudeness, try sitting on the beach, rude Spanish turn up and park themselves practically on top of you to get close to the waters edge, with their parasol blocking the sun and the view, with no consideration for those who are already there and the rest of the beach with plenty of space.

Well said John. I can agree with you that the Spanish people are so much ruder in general but its a price we pay for living in their wonderful country ☺

I do have some very pleasant Spanish neighbours though.

Hi, no we didn't give up our seats  but they gathered all the other chairs and huddled around one table which made us feel even more uncomfortable so we finished our drinks and left anyway

Steve, you are right not all Spanish people are rude and not all Ex Pats are prats. We have met some really nice examples of both.

Well they did ask if you minded ?

We cannot control how others act, but we can control how we react.

Spanish is not a please and thank you culture. I find it rude but remind myself we live in a Spanish culture not English.

So true, there are cultural difference, which can sometimes make it appear that people are being unfriendly/rude but in general you get nice people and not so nice people in every country.
