Hi

I am looking for a Solicitor(?) to help me sort out Power of Attorney documents, I also need to know a rough cost and timescale to complete.

I would also require someone who can do the annual tax submission.

My mother who is resident in Gran Alacant travels into central Alicante each year to do this and I would like to arrange something closer to her home.

Any help/advice would be appreciated

If by PoA you mean giving someone lasting power to do anything required, then it will be cheaper to go direct to a notary. A PoA has to be notarised, so paying extra for a middle man just puts up the price. Our notary is out of your area, but the following might give you some pointers:

I can't advise a tax specialist, as in all the years I've been doing tax returns, I've yet to find an 'expert' who does them properly for UK citizens. However, if you are computer literate and aren't put off by form filling online, then every year I publish a guide to doing it yourself.

Thanks Jim, very helpful. Unfortunately my mother is reaching an age where faculties are not what they were so I need to ensure that I can assist her wherever possible. The PoA is very important and I will act upon your advice. I will also seek out your guide on the tax submissions as I know currently she hauls herself into Alicante once a year and that wont be possible soon, if I can do it online so much better.

Thanks again

It sounds at though you're willing to have a go yourself, Nick, so good for you. I won't remember myself, because I get involved in so many threads on the forum, but feel free to contact me at the end of April if you don't see my guide by then.

Your mum's tax return won't be due until the end of June, so that will give you time to find someone else to do it if you don't want to tackle it yourself.

To give you an idea of what's involved - have a look at the following:

I've already published the exchange rate to be used for income in 2019 - something the 'experts' often get wrong:

Hi Nick

You could also get your mother to have a chat with Isobel and Sylvia at the Foreigners Advisory Bureau in MASA Square. They are experts in all things like this. Their contact details are http://fab-consulting.com/
