And here....

12. Staying away from home overnight

Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed- including holidays in the UK and abroad. This includes staying in a second home or caravan, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with.

You are allowed to stay overnight away from your home if you:

are unable to return to your main residence an need accommodation while moving house, need accommodation to attend a funeral or related commemorative event, require accommodation for work purposes or to provide voluntary services or care to a child requiring accommodation for school or care for homeless, seeking asylum or a vulnerable person seeking refuge, or an elite athlete or their support staff or parent, if the athlete is under 18

Steve

Thanks Steve but again, applies to England only.

Hi Steve,

I don't live in England so I'm not breaking any UK or Spanish laws.

There was a post on the excellent N332 Facebook page which was a little misleading due to the wording / translation.

However, if you fly into Alicante you can travel within the Valencian Community. You could not fly into Murcia then drive into Valencian community.

Hi there, I may have misinterpreted you then. For clarity can you tell us where you live?

Steve

I live in Scotland, I didn't declare that as the original post was asking about entry to Spain and not leaving the UK. I'm not sure where the original poster lives though.

The rules are complicated and I'm currently trying to find info to support what I've said. 👍

I'm not aware of how Scotland differs from England but I had the thought that it doesn't differ much, maybe you can correct me. Have you checked gov.scot?

You were correct about travel between Valencia and other provinces being prohibited 👍

Hi.  This is very interesting.

I live in England.  So I was basing my observations on what I read on the Uk government site.  I realised I couldn’t fly out from EMA to Alicante because travel abroad was banned under the latest restrictions.
The Spanish Gov site doesn’t state that you should Isolate when you arrive in Spain, but the State of Emergency states “No travel into Spain for non residents for six months”.
That is what I was trying to clarify......that no non residents could arrive into Spain until April!

The rule re travelling within the Valencia region, and not out of it, is clear.  This obviously precludes driving down.

So, it would seem that we cannot come over at all until there is a (hopefully partial) lifting of some of the rules.

Thank you for all your help and clarifications.

Cheers Steve,

Can you supply a link to the rules for travel within the Valencian Community please. There's a lot of people confused about what's allowed.

I've attached a page from UK government website which clearly states the rules you quoted apply only to England.

It's not Spain that's barring you Fay its the Westminster government. Spains International borders are open, its travel between certain regions thats not allowed which we all agree on. 👍

I'm not sure what relevance A Place In The Sun has, anyway....

As previously said, visiting a holiday home abroad makes you a tourist under any definition. There's a worldwide pandemic ongoing which is killing people and governments across Europe are correct to restrict travel when they believe it's in the interests of public safety and that has to come abov...

...e other considerations. In doing so it reduces much needed revenue to the Spanish economy so it's not as if they're doing it lightly.

Under the full lockdown here back in the Spring I wasn't able to check on my rental apartment 11 miles away so I do understand the concerns that UK residents have about their holiday homes. But it is what it is. Hopefully it won't last forever.

Steve

I thought that the relevance was that before people buy in Spain,  It would be very helpful to them to read all about the problems they will encounter.   I didn’t need the pandemic explained to me actually like it was news.  We were in Spain the whole of the first lockdown until July. I suppose I was talking the long story, not the present emergency and that the holiday home owners should have some status to allow a longer stay etc.  I too am in Scotland and it struck me years ago that the “English” refer to the whole of the U.K. as being “ England”. I saw you couldn’t think where else Craig could possibly be coming from.  Gave me a chuckle Lol.

I'm aware that the first set of rules I pasted up covered England. Had you said you live in Scotland I would have pasted from Gov.scot

The rule here is no internal travel in or out of Valencia region. (As you'll be aware Alicante is in Valencia region) So, if you arrive at Alicante or Valencia airport you can drive freely within the area but not outside it. However there is a curfew between 00.00 and 06.00 and there is a debate about whether if you arrived at the airport during those hours you would risk a fine for driving on to your destination.

There was due to be an update to the regulations in the region today or tomorrow but as yet I haven't seen it. I'm not aware at this stage that a 'tourist' would be turned away on arrival at the airport but I'm not intending to suggest I'm an expert on all this.

It might give you a chuckle then to hear that I'm also Scottish. Craig did not say where he lived, he just said he was 'flying in'. The population statistics between the countries gave me a good statistical chance that I would be right. He could easily have said 'I live in Scotland, do you know where we stand with this'

Maybe get that chip off your shoulder!
