UK Driving Licence Question

Hi.

I was just about to book a car when I read the terms stating the driving licence must be at least one year old. Well, I moved home and had to apply for an updated driving licence. The one I received from DLVC shows an issue date of February 2023. Nowhere in it it stated that I originally passed my test and got my licence (a paper one) in 1980.

Would I run the risk of  the car hire person at the airport refusing me the car ? Has any of you experienced the same problem ? Surely that "one year old" should not refer to how hold the document is but when the licence was obtained.

Doubt they'll bother but DVLA will issue a driving history by using this link https://dvladigital.blog.gov.uk/2014/06/26/the-view-driving-record-experience/

You need your driving licence number and your national insurance number.

I suspect what they mean is that you must have held a licence for over a year, e.g. to exclude new and inexperienced drivers.

Makes no sense otherwise.

There is, also the fact that 18 is the min age for a driving licence in Spain not 17 as in the UK

Well done for reading the T&C's, that puts you in the minority!

On the back of the licence it should show when you got your licence. Mine shows on the front 4a issue date 2021 but on the back on B it shows 1993

Well yes, the same with mine but how can a foreign person be expected to understand that  on the reverse in column 10 at item B (which does not give any clue as to what it is for) the early date is actually the date of the original issue of the licence to its holder ? Was it not simpler to put AT THE FRONT of the document

Issue date date of licence : 19xx

Date of renewal :20xx

The mind boggles, but then I am not a native ...

Thank you for coming back to me and in a sense reassure me with you answer. I just hope that I will find a knowledgeable person at the car hire desk when I arrive
