Hello lovely people and happy new year!

I am half Maltese and married to a UK British Citizen (I also am). I have recently been awarded my Maltese citizenship and am considering applying for a Maltese passport. We already own a villa in El Raso. We want to permanently live in Spain when we retire in 2 years.

What will I need to do to become a Spanish Resident (if that is the correct terminology) please as well as my husband?

What ‘things’ will we qualify for being part of the EU?

Thank you in advance for any help/advice.

Lots of websites offer advice.

Here’s one of the ones I found.

Just be aware that the income you need to prove changes on a regular basis

Once you have your EU (Maltese) passport it will be a lot easier for you to apply for residency in Spain. You'll still need to prove you have access to Spanish healthcare and have sufficient funds but the requirements are a lot easier for an EU citizen. Once you have residency your UK partner can use the family reunification to apply for residency, which is also easier than applying in their own right.

I think your first move would be to secure your EU passport as it could take some time for your application to go through.
