Same with us, if our dog drops a tiny bit of food on the floor, there are ants all over it in no time. Can't use sprays because of the dog, I've heard white vinegar works so watching this post with interest.

Or, I’m afraid, the drastic solution, Raid ant traps, not the stupid little ones that you pierce which allegedly attract them, but the more serious type. The ants in our house have huge nests in a couple of places below the floor outside and enter through two or three places under the kitchen furniture plinth s. We remove the plinths and distribute two or three traps, they take the poison back to the nests. We make sure to exchange the traps about every three months. We are finally winning the battle. I also spray them when they can be seen annually in the evening swarming, this has diminished the nuisance greatly.

I always dust the effected areas with CUCHOL powder in the yellow and green box. You can hide it under a board just clear of the floor and the dog can't get at it.

I never ceases to amaze me  how quickly the ants disappear.

I have ants' nests all over the garden and am waging war against them.

I can recommend S-95 floor wash available in Mercadona. Wash the floors daily with this and you will have no issues.

I can also recommend the S95 from Mercadona and  if you don’t shop there, then KH7 make an excellent one, look for a purple container, albeit more expensive. It’s amazing how many dead insects you find on your floor.

However hard you try you’ll never completely eliminate them. It fascinates me how they seem to be able to detect the smallest crumb or the smallest splash of liquid.
