Quite simple to understand really. All mercadona stores have rigid plastic shields to seperate the cashier from the customer. If you push the trolley front in it is impossible to unload and also puts you nearer the customer in front. Turning the trolley allows you to easily unload the trolley onto the the belt. The customer behind should, and in my experience always will, be the required distance from you as marked on the floor. Why do some people make life so difficult and whinge about every little thing. It's just a little ask and is to protect their staff and you. Maybe the posters should lighten up, far worse things to worry about.

I see people ,as they enter a store, stopping to sanitise the handles of their trolley.  I have NOT seen anyone sanitising the sides or back .  These people think their trolley is sanitised and safe and then I see these people turning their trolley side ways, holding onto the the rear end as they unload their shopping and put it into the car.   I see this type of action each time I shop but don’t see a staff member sanitising the trollies.   I am led to believe that the coronavirus remains on metal for quite sometime.

It's a nonsense which serves no useful purpose.

If there were any scientific proof that it did I think you'd find everyone doing it!

I quiet agree

Another customer had the trolley spun - she was standing in the same place the trolley had the handles away from her.

So what is the reason they are doing this?

Social distancing and the virus lives longer on plastic surfaces than the metal is the only reason I can think of.

You have a good point there. I hadn't thought of that despite sanitising the handles on the way in and then hands on the way out. Am getting to be a connoisseur of various sanitisers though, Leroy's have the edge so far. lol

I’ve been here in Spain for 5 weeks and my beautiful hands are now all wrinkly and dried up with putting all that cheap sanitiser on them.  A serious course of hand cream is now required !  Honestly, when I look at my hands, I am shocked. Started to wear my leather gloves in the past few days to save them, is anyone else in the same boat?

Age, my eye!   My hands have always remained in perfect condition due to the fact that I now allow my husband to cook and spend as long as he likes in the kitchen ( Silly man seems to enjoy it and he’s welcome)  Definitely this ghastly, cheap supposed anti bacterial gel made available at the entrance of most shops. By the time this nightmare pandemic is over, our hands will be in a sorry state. Advice... stay home!
