Hello, hope someone can advise. I have a Maltese passport and citizenship along with British (I’m half Maltese). My partner has a British passport. I own a villa in Guardamar and the deeds are in my name only. I have a NIE number. We will get married in 2024 and permanently live in Spain. A few questions:

1) my partner wants to apply for a NIE number at the Manchester consulate. I’m assuming he can do this himself. I have read posts on FB that when someone goes to buy a car for instance NIE proof is not enough and have been asked for copy of deeds. Obviously only my name is on deeds. Any experiences/thoughts/guidance.

2) I am also concerned about when my partner goes with the removal van that they will want various proof of where we live in Spain (again same issue with deeds)

3) When we get to Spain are the only things we need to do is register with a Padrón at Guardamar town hall (how do we do this and what do we take) and register at main police station in Guardamar (again how do we make an appointment and what do we take)

4) We will both apply for our (S1 form?) UK health cover after we retire and before we move. Do we get issued with a certificate? Then in Spain how do we register with a GP?

Trying to think of everything in advance!

We just want to ensure we are doing everything legally and properly so no issues down the line!

TIA

Regards

Pa

Malta is a EU member, so you (and your non-Eu partner) benefit from all EU ruling. You can stay up to 6 months w/o doing nothig. Then, you have to register as a EU resident (thgis includes a NIE) and get your certificate from your local "padron" and that's it.

EU members have upto 3 months to register with the national police not 6 months.

Family members must apply for a residence card of a family member of a citizen of the European Union in person, within three months of their date of entry into Spain, at the Non-nationals Office in the province where they intend to stay or establish their residence or, failing that, at the relevant local police station. Getting an NIE from Manchester embassy was not that difficult, we got ours in December, didn't take more than ten days

1 email in the requested information

2 receive code and book time slot

3 receive it by email

A couple of websites that may be of help are as follows:

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for bureaucratic stuff, and

N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain.   This site, and their Facebook page, is for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code on it.
