Has anyone applied for Residencia themselves or do you have to use an agent?

Also recommendations and approx cost would be helpful, TIA

Are you a EU or non EU citizen? The system is different for both. EU includes Ireland and Non EU includes UK.

You need to apply at a Spanish consulate in UK. You will need to attend the interview in person. John123456 has posted loads of links on the process and many people have done it themselves.

This a link from the Spanish foreign office which applies to applications from Manchester (you can also do it from London and Edinburgh)

https://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/Manchester/en/ServiciosConsulares/Paginas/Consular/Visado-de-residencia-no-lucrativa.aspx

It does look daunting but many have done it by themselves.

Hi Jan21,

It depends on the visa for which you want to apply.  For example, early retirees and pensioners typically apply for the Non Lucrative Visa (NLV).  The link below takes you to a guide written by one of our first members to make the application himself - it's a couple of years old, but has some useful anecdotal information from his personal experience:

How to apply for a Non-Lucrative visa (NLV)

There have a been a couple of notable changes since Steve wrote his guide:

1.  Private health insurance is only required if you are not State retirement age.  If you are drawing your State pension, you can apply for the Form S1 to transfer funding of your healthcare in Spain from the UK.

2.  Visa applications for Spain now have to be made via BLS visa centres in the UK:

https://uk.blsspainvisa.com/

There may be other changes, such as the price of the NLV itself, and the cost of other visa types also vary - this link provides information on all Spanish visas for Third Country Nationals:

Kind regards,

Kim
