Hello

We are currently in the process of purchasing a new property and solicitors are charging 450€ for contacting the utility companies to ensure the supply is converter to our names.

Is this something that can only be handled by solicitors? is 450€ a fair price or is there something we should look into doing it ourselves?

Thank you in advance

Hello

Its many years since I purchased my home here but I do know the  transferring  of utilities to me  & setting up my direct debits was all done by my solicitor at no extra charge as part of the conveyancing  process.

Cheers

You can do it on your own, simply show up at the relative supplier and they tell you what to do.

This does sound expensive, but are you retain that this is just their ‘fee’ for doing this for you? It may include sums to settle outstanding utility bills on the property, which, if they have not been paid by the previous owner, regrettably, become your responsibility.
