Parkinsons Disease

Hello,

My name is Tony, I have Parkinsons. (PD)

I think since being diagnosed, I have found out what this Parkinsons thing is all about, but, what can I expect in the long term future, what is available to me with regard to ongoing information on treatments, drugs, care from the community and most of all I wanted to talk to someone in a like situation.

Searching on the net I found Parkinsons-UK and ES, both with Facebook pages so I was able to view what the general comments were and to find local groups at Novelda and Elche. Communication with them provided some information but there was always going to be the language barrier not being sufficiently fluent in Spanish myself.

Following the Parkinsons UK Facebook page, revealed help and advice that is available in the UK, one surprising aspect was that many Health Regions in the UK provide specialist nurses for advice outside of hospital neurological consultations. Also, that not only the patient needs help and advice but also carers find benefits from talking to other carers. Some groups in the UK have specialist guest speakers on all aspects of Parkinsons at their group meetings which can prove highly informative.

With all the above information I got to wondering if it would be possible to set up a Parkinsons Group in the Hondon region for all nationalities but mainly aimed at English speaking nationals although all others would be welcome. With this thought in mind, I am sending out an invitation to those of us with Parkinsons and their carers to ascertain if it would be a viable proposition to set up a Group locally. I have set up a temporary email address to which you can respond to, in complete confidentiality, if you would consider forming such a Group.

Regards, Tony …………….  [email protected]

Hi Tony and welcome to the forum!

I really admire your positivity and I´m sure others will appreciate your efforts.

While I have no direct experience of Parkinson´s Disease, I wondered whether you may want to "pick the brains" of the Parkinson´s group, supported by Help Vega Baja - I think that their name of "Movers and Shakers" probably gives you an idea of the group´s approach to the disease!  While it doesn´t cover your area, my reason for suggesting it is because it´s primarily aimed at English speakers in this region.  (For info, my knowledge of this group is from a friend, Marion Smith, whose husband has Huntingdon´s Disease.)

Hiya ! I was wondering if anyone has made the move to Spain after Brexit from the uk . Wanted to know there experience and how difficult or easy has it been to get visa’s to stay on permanent basis.

We want to sell our property in uk and move to Hondon valley but have concerns that we wouldn’t  get visa to stay longer than 90 days . Keep hearing different stories.

Also need some where to stay in the valley or near valley to have a look around the area. Any ideas ?

What is the best time to visit the valley, was thinking  of coming out in January?

Any help or advice will be grat

Hi Kitch68,

I don't know whether you realise, but you've added your post to a thread about Parkinson's disease.  This may limit the number of responses you receive, so you'd probably be better starting a new post with a relevant title.

Kind regards,

Kim
