Hi,

when you say you have it on great authority that the car starting the fire was electric, who is the great authority?

The press reporting was based on what they were told by Bedfordshire Fire Service's chief fire officer, someone I would have thought should know the actual cause of the fire. The fire service have no reason to lie about the cause of a fire.

Rgds,

Aitch.

The authorities lie all the time to cover things, look at what the fire service, the constructors and the council covered up about the Grenfell fire disaster. Then the water company's covering up the amount of sewage they have discharged into the UK rivers and the sea's for years. It goes on all the time. It is a fact diesel does not explode. I only wish I could post the video. The bottom of an EV is like an unexploded bomb.

Many Insurance companies in the Uk are withdrawing insurance cover for EV's and the ones that still do have doubled or trebled the price for insurance.

This is why we are constantly having public enquiries because of cover-ups and lies.

Alfapash,

I do not recall the London fire service being accused of any cover up over Grenfell, contractors and government maybe. Why would the Bedfordshire fire brigade want to cover up a electric car fire, does not make sense. There is nothing for them to gain by covering up the cause of such a fire.

Insurance companies may or may not be withdrawing cover for EV's, that is irrelevant to this topic. They are increasing prices because of the cost of repairing electric cars, not because of fire risks.

Why a year? It should take no longer than 3/4months max. If you have the temporary licence it should take a couple of weeks max. Maybe you need to harrass whoever did the exchange for you.

Hi Purplelady

so the great authority you refer to is a pick up driver, whether male or female is really irrelevant.

Personally I prefer to believe the version from the Bedfordshire Chief Fire Officer, someone who has people working for him that are professionals in determining the cause of fires. Still that's just my opinion.

Yesterday on the lunchtime news they spoke with a young guy whose electric scooter had exploded when on charge, the whole house caught fire. He lost his wife, son, daughter and their 2 dogs and he had multible burns all over his body. Then they showed a motorbike exploding 2 weeks ago in Yorkshire and a demonstration of what happens when a small battery for an electric scooter explodes, so imagine the huge battery that is in the floor of a car.

They then visited a burns unit in a London hospital and the nurse said they are dealing with many similar cases every week. she also said often not only do the patients have to deal with their injuries, but often they have nowhere to go when they are discharged to, when it also involves their home.

EV's are not the panacea that they claim to be. They are clearly dangerous and lives will be lost. I'm not parking my car anywhere near one.

Hi Alfapash,

I don't think you can compare electric cars to electric scooters. Any model of car that is introduced in Europe/USA has to pass rigorous safety checks before they are certified to be used on the road, electric scooters don't. It is well documented that some of the scooters being sold are prone to batteries exploding, usually due to substandard chargers.

I don't see EV's as any panacea, I don't own one as, for me, they are too expensive and too limited in range. However I don't see them as a danger on the roads any more than fossil fuel powered vehicles.

Maybe the way forward is solid state batteries that do not depend upon lithium?

The car was electric. Diesel does not explode, it wasn't just a fire, of course the authority's don't want anyone to know it was an EV. So far this year 12 EV cars have done just that. Lithium is very votatile, diesel is not. That's another reason why there are rules when flying about batteries i...

...n electrical items.

I have a video of when it exploded, part the of the upper floor above where you drive in on the right exploded and collapsed. Diesel takes intense pressure or a sustained flame to ignite. Try to burn diesel with a match and it goes out.

A fire would not have caused the upper floor to collaspe in the manner it did.

As for the lady I'm surprised anyone still has a paper copy license. I'm on my second new card type license. Best to stay up to date with the rules and regulations.

You're on the right track. Diesel has a higher FLASH POINT, which is not a constant flame but a much higher temperature required in order to combust. And yes, the fire was caused by an EV.
