I’m no Greta Thunberg, but I try, where possible, to consider the air miles involved.

I know that could be hype, but it’s in my head now, along with chlorinated chicken 🤪🥂

Same here everytime I look at the country of origin on the asparagus in Mercadona, Peru! that's a lot of unnecessary air miles.

This is unfortunately difficult to solve problem. Out of season in uk, nearly all asparagus comes from Peru, as it has the perfect growing conditions. I take this example only as it’s applicable to other crops, ie flowers from Kenya. We now demand and expect all kinds of fresh fruit and vegetables all year round, which have to be grown somewhere. Apparently it can be less damaging to import products than to set up local facilities which equally demand huge quantities of some kind of heating, usually in polytunnels, and vast quantities of water. The other consideration is labour, and work for people in the countries who produce these things. For example the absolutely enormous flower business in Kenya has made a huge difference to the lives of, mainly women, who would otherwise have no means of earning a meaningful living.

And as most of these industries supply worldwide, without altering the expectations of nearly everyone, certainly in western society, one has to deal with the reality as it is. But, no, thank you, would prefer not to have chlorinated chicken or hormone enhanced beef or overdose of antibiotics.

What fun brexit is!  I ordered a dress from Phase eight for my niece wedding was really look forward to getting it, what a surprise to see a 82 euros import duty to be paid.  I cancelled and told courier to send back to UK.  The joy of brexit, so far only brought misery to us all.

Life was so easy before, could order from UK no problem some will not sell to Spain. Can anyone tell me what good it has done....

 NO FUN AND NO USE!

We are booked on Eurotunnel on 10th July and will road trip in our VW Camper to our house in Castalla. We cannot believe what food is restricted upon entry into the EU. All meat ,dairy products. Cannot even take a meat roll to travel with or some chocolate, pathetic. Even looking at our dog food is limited to 2 kilos but we will try our dogs fish based kibble as no meat .Of course the guidance is poor and varies from website to website. Must not forget our green card insurance and new dog health certificate. Makes me remember my trips to Europe in the 1960s with by Mum and Dad and hassle they received at border controls and extra various payments made as Dad forgot his green car one year! We have indeed gone back in time. Oh and there is the ever changing Covid travel rules on European travel and return to UK. Antigen or PCR, NHS vaccination certificate ,certificates of honour, more health certificates and the 48-72 hours travel timelines, no issue on a flight but on a road trip it is much more challenging. Anyway, we will not be beaten as we must get back to our house as its been a year now since we were enjoying it!!

I didn’t know you couldn’t buy clothes in Spain what a bugger.

I suppose you could drive down to Gibraltar they have all the British shops you need to buy your British outfits

Just to put a positive spin on this, perhaps we could compile an 'Anti-Brexit Shopping List' - a list of shops where we can buy online from Spain and defy the Brexit-induced customs charges? 👍😉

I'll start with Next and M&S, the latter now following Next's lead by stocking other leading brands, such as Ghost.  With Next stocking brands such as Boden, Ted Baker and many others, we girlies (and the guys!) can still strut our stuff in lovely clothes while defying those Brexiteers! ...

...😄

FitFlop still deliver to Spain, too, although you have to keep your order value under €150 to avoid customs charges.

Happy shopping! 🤑😄

Kimmy a fab idea. Maybe there could be a list posted on this forum to be added to by subscribers when we find a new supplier. I was so happy finding Holland & Barrett at Habineras, but sad that Primark can’t seem to keep up with supplies and it’s a hit and miss trip now.

👍👍👍

Hi Wizzy

Great to see such enthusiasm! Of course, Spanish shops offer a great variety. However, I’ve found that unless you want to pay megabucks for what I’ll describe as M&S type clothes, what’s on sale can be rather “bling” or Ibiza chic. I love that too, but it’s not perhaps age appropriate beyond about the age of 40. My opinion only of course 😉

As you say, we could perhaps start a list/thread, maybe in Spain Tips and Guides.

I’m a “half and half” so perhaps not the best person to start the list as I can shop readily in the U.K. Maybe you and Kim can give this some thought? 🤪🥂

Hello

Can I suggest that you take a look at spanish online company    https://www.zalando.es/mujer-home/

I have Google Chrome which translates immediately so very easy to shop . I have bought twice from them and been very happy both times.  You will see that they have some UK items, M&S, Dorothy Perkins, River Island & many  more brands  & at the moment they have a summer sale - they even sell some second hand items so  much to choose from.

Cheers

Why not buy clothes in spain , my mrs in la zenia boulevard spent a small fortune ,  plenty off great shops , the shops nead all the help you Europeans can do , us brexiteers did our bit , travelled to Spain and spent money , for us in Britain this brexit is starting to pay dividends,  hopefully good quality meat from Australia,  the east Europeans have stopped flooding in , wages going up , soon will be back to full employment,  just need to work out problems with northern Ireland!
