If he got free accommodation and was paid to drive a car last year, then I’d think he’d be going back to the same people again this year!!
Me thinks he was a squatter and driving a taxi, both at no cost to himself..!

Think you are correct, last time he was working as paid help, ie. live in chauffeur with accommodation. He needs another job.
