Hello,

We’d like to build (or have built) an additional boundary wall on what was/is ‘verde land.  Most of our neighbours have built an additional wall (extended there gardens) in this way and placed pools and sheds on the land. One of our neighbours said that the council are quite happen for people to move their boundary wall by a certain size as it stops them having the responsibility for looking after it.

We have written to the council who replied saying I would have to do and speak to the council’s planning officer.  This seems reasonable but, as I may wish to build the wall myself I wondered if anyone could advise me of the pros and cons and what we would require to show the council?

Alternatively, can anyone advise us of a good and reliable builder that could do all or part of the job for us?

Many thanks,

Ma

If you want a reliable 100% professional builder, contract Reinhard Schaeppi, he has been on the Urbanisation for more than 20 years. Tell him Kenneth on Avenida Londres recommended him. He has the same number on Whatsapp.

Whatever size build you are going to undertake, you may need a work permit/licence.  That said, I built part of our boundary wall having first checked that as long as it was under 1.5m in height, I could so without any planning permission or work licences.

I know different areas have different rules, and if you build it yourself you will become ultimately reliable for its reliability and strength.  Getting a proper authorised builder will offer you the comfort that if, for whatever reason the wall cracks or collapses, you will have 'come back' on whomever built it.

I'm not underestimating your ability to be able to build the wall itself, but as its a boundary wall you just can't be too careful.

Blessings
