Do you mean ‘ take back to uk’ or ‘ bring back here’?

Officially, in either case, very little. No meat, dairy, items containing flour that I know of. There are probably other prohibitions.

Why bother anyway, there is very little ineither country which cannot be bought?

What you can officially bring back is limited. What the limitations actually are I'm not sure as we always just take a chance and if it gets confiscated then, so be it.

Wensleydale cheese is a particular favourite, which we haven't been able to get in Spain. Also corned beef and a few packs if back bacon.

We usually travel via Eurotunnel and they seem more concerned about drugs and firearms rather than meat and dairy products (quite rightly so I say) and we have never been searched. If we ever are and the goods are confiscated, then I hope they are enjoyed by the Customs Officers.

I'm not advocating breaking the rules but, hey, it's not a criminal offence.

It's more what you can't bring. As others have said, no dairy products, no meat products. If you're carrying a large amount of produce you could be considered an importer and even more questions will be asked.

I don't think the odd tin of Spam will get you into too much trouble and there's always the possibility that you won't be the one that gets stopped and has to remove all the stuff from your car at the ferry terminal. Unfortunate as it is, don't under estimate the entertainment for the other travelers.
