It will be very hard to get hold of anyone these days. Be prepared to learn that your boiler is technically outdated, there are no parts available anymore and the like, and it's worthwhile to buy a new one with a heavy discount. This way they make more money.

The batteries were changed in September by our Builder. Not sure ours are chargable but don't know. Cheers

It's never a good time to be without hot water especially in winter. You don't say what kind of boiler it is. Is it one that just does the hot water, made by Cointra, Junkers and the like? Here are a few suggestions.

It is possible that the rubber diaphragm that lives in the control valve has gone hard. They actually cost only 3-5€ but plumber types will try and sell you a new boiler.

If you are handy you can change it with an adjustable spanner and a screwdriver. Just take the valve out, strip it down and put in the new diaphragm. At the same time check for lime deposits everywhere. The water side is seperate from the gas side so you will not be messing with that.

The basic operating procedure is that when you turn on a tap it creates a pressure difference across the diaphragm which then moves and operates the ignition and opens the gas valve.
