Hi all. I'm wondering if anyone could advise.

I've fitted a new kitchen. Which I've a new Electric cooker and a new 2 ring electric Hob which sits within worktop above cooker.

Question is. There is only 1 3 bin socket behind over. But I have 2 items to connect to it. I have purchased the 3 bin plug from Leroy merlin. And the guy said I can fix both to one socket????? Ummmm.

Now looking at it. It really seem to me that could be an overload of power for one socket. Plus only space for 1 cable through the neck. All this looks really unsafe

If I'm correct to Hob should be on separate plug and socket  but there's only the standard spainish 2 bin which is located further along the wall and a little to far for it to reach  plus the hob has an earth which spainish 2 bin does not  eeeek

So how do I go about connecting both hob and cooker safly

There is a product available for this .... a "heavy duty" rectangular 3 pin plug which can support 2 appliances .... but, of course, it needs to be plugged into the appropriate socket. If you don't have that socket, you may not have the wiring and supply capacity to support running the two appliances at the same time.

Some homes here have only a 3.75kw contracted supply capacity, and this may not enable concurrent operation of an oven and 2-ring hob.

Probably worth checking out your contracted supply capacity (check your electricity bill) and your wiring circuit breaker amperage before going any further.

ps ... the standard 2 pin plug/socket is usually earthed by means of the 2 copper connectors at the extreme circumference, not via the pins ... worth checking that your socket has these.

Thank you Kelvin. For replying.

Yes I have that heavy duty 3 pin socket with separate fuse braker. Which the socket is located behind the cooker. However there is only 1,

Where as I have 2 appliances. So in a nut shell, its ok to wire both appliances into ONE plug. (Double up)

I can't quote chapter and verse (I'm not an electrician) but I have seen this done elsewhere.

I suggest you check the rating of your separate breaker (and supply wiring) to see if it is enough to run the amperage (wattage) of the two appliances concurrently.

The amperage is usually printed on the breaker.

We fitted a new electric oven recently (but opted for a gas hob). The oven had a total rating of around 3kw, but in reality, depending on the setting used, only draws about 2kw.

I can't be sure about a 2-ring electric hob, but the rating will probably be marked on the appliance or in the instruction document.

Lastly ... do check your contracted supply. I suspect an oven and 2-ring hob, running concurrently, will "pop" a 3.75kw supply.

Hope all goes well.

A socket with earth contacts top and bottom is rated at 16 amps, and it's probable that he wiring and circuit breaker are only suitable for that. If the total draw from both oven and hob is more than that, then you'd to do some re-wiring.

It's normal in Spain for any appliance to just be plugged into a 16A socket, rather than wired into a spur unit.

I totally re-wired our kitchen (among other areas), and put the oven, the hob, and the ordinary sockets onto separate circuits and circuit breakers. We're on the 5.75 kW contracted power and, touch wood, haven't yet had the smart meter trip out.
