Can anybody offer me any help or further information?

I am trying to find out about this derelict house, Villa Rosa, situated on Partida el Pla de Castell 95, Altea, next to Hotel Tossal.

I believe that it was once owned by a British doctor, Dr Mc.Quregen (I'm not 100% certain that the spelling is correct) and his wife Mrs Oldrin (not sure if that is her Christian name or surname, or if the spelling is correct).

Apparently, Mrs Oldrin died (year unknown), and Dr McQuregen sold the house, to an English man named Tony Short. However, unfortunately Tony and his wife both died in an accident in Cuba (year unknown), and the house has stood empty ever since.

It is thought that it has stood empty due to the sales/purchase taxes not having been paid.

I have been told that a friend of Tony's, a painter named Michael Schupan who lived in Captivador, near La Nucia may be able to help me, but I haven't been able to trace him.

I have applied for the Nota Simple (title register) to find out who legally owns the house and if there is any money owing on it, but have been informed that there are no records of the house. So what should I do next?

The house is in a very bad state of repair, and the last time I visited it, had a group of squatters living in it.

Can anybody help me in tracing the current legal owner of the property, or advise on how I could legally acquire it?

With many thanks.

Ask at the Council - Tributos to find out about ground tax - who paid when which amounts etc. Find out at the "Catastro" about the cadaster ID and consequently owner of the ground.

Did you find out the catastral number as part of your search? If not, this is the Catastro information:

https://www1.sedecatastro.gob.es/CYCBienInmueble/OVCConCiud.aspx?del=3&mun=18&UrbRus=U&RefC=5666301YH5756N0001EB&Apenom=&esBice=&RCBice1=&RCBice2=&DenoBice=&from=nuevoVisor

I've also looked at the Registro de la Propiedad website, and they have the property recorded against the catastral number.

Killjoy and Jim, thank you so much for the information.  I didn't have the catastral number, so thank you for finding it for me. Now maybe I can find out what's going on with the property.

Well, I've been going round and round in circles with this!

I applied for the Nota Simple, with the address and cadastral number, but the search came back as 'not found'.  I've paid for two separate searches on the property now - as the property seems to have two addresses!  But each search has come back with 'property not found'.

Surely if there is a cadastral number there must be some information held about the land/property?

Does anybody know what else I can do?  I'm in the UK so can't go in to the office in Altea to speak to someone face-to-face.

Although I can’t swear to this, I understand from various sources that some reorganization of Catastral numbers etc has taken place; this may have had something to do with the revaluation of property some years ago, for tax purposes. This especially has been so in rural areas. I know this is of little help to you.

If this has been unoccupied due to tax problems, it may be worth trying to contact a solicitor/gestor with knowledge of the tax system and possible contacts within the offices to try and research that way. I know this will involve you in more expense, but may be worth it?

Thank you, I may have to go down that route.

The house is on a street, with other houses and has a hotel next to it, so it's not in a rural area, though it has been derelict for several years now.

Thank you for your suggestion, knowledge and advice. x
